Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to get an extended look on Netflix later this month, but fans have seemingly been treated to a full gameplay sequence ahead of the official reveal. Up until this point, GTA 6's marketing has steered clear of designated gameplay footage, with in-engine trailer material avoiding any in-game UI or clear reveals of mechanics.

For all of Rockstar's secrecy, though, leaks have been a major part of GTA 6's development. The new gameplay footage seems to be the result of another breach of confidentiality, although it's not clear if it has any direct connection to the content planned for the Netflix extended look.

As reported by Polygon, a Streamable upload of the leaked footage shows Jason relaxing at his beachfront house. At the beginning of the clip, Jason is leaning on the rail of his porch as seagulls squawk in the background. After a moment, he gets up, walks across the porch, and vaults over the rail to land on the ground.

In his driveway, Jason runs over to pick up a basketball and starts dribbling. After getting in position, he shoots some hoops, with the first giving him a 2% boost to "Focus." After one miss and another score, his fourth shot sees the ball bounce off of the top of the backboard and roll downhill to start floating away in the water.

Aside from the confirmation of a basketball mechanic, there isn't too much to glean from the leaked footage aside from a few basic UI indicators. The HUD features two monetary counts, with a $39 tally next to a wallet symbol and a larger $1,643 sum next to a home symbol. While playing basketball, prompts also appear to throw and aim the basketball. The "Focus" pop-up also suggests the inclusion of a Focus stat or mechanic, which might be something similar to Red Dead Redemption's Dead Eye.

Leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt, and although this looks impressive, there's no telling if it directly corresponds to the current state of GTA 6's development in any real way. Either way, fans won't have to wait long to get a more substantive look at the game. The highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 Netflix event is scheduled for August 27 at 3 PM ET, so official gameplay footage should be less than 10 days away.
