Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI don’t go live until June 25, but Rockstar Games is already revealing the price of the most anticipated open-world blockbuster in years. GTA VI will start at $80 at launch, with an Ultimate Edition that’s $100. That’s more than the $70 price point originally set by parent company Take-Two with NBA 2K21 back when the PlayStation and Xbox Series X console generation began back in 2020, and in line with what Nintendo charged for Mario Kart World at launch last year.
“Launching November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems for $79.99, Grand Theft Auto VI features a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet,” reads a new press release shared by Take-Two.
The company also confirmed that the $100 Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition will include an “exclusive” collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and “action threaded across aspects” of dual protagonists Jason and Lucia’s story. Furthermore, pre-orders will get fans access to the Vintage Vice City Pack, an additional collection of items that harken back to the “neon burned” ’80s, as well as a free month of GTA+.
Take-Two says that subscription “will be the best way to get the most out of the ever-evolving world of GTA Online and [be] instantly redeemable so that players can jump into Grand Theft Auto V and other classic Rockstar titles as part of the GTA+ Games Library,” suggesting that there might not be a new version of GTA Online immediately when GTA VI launches.
At $80, Grand Theft Auto VI will cost more than any other single game has on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch, though not by much. Analysts had previously speculated that Rockstar could get away with charging as much as $100 a copy, and some even suggested it might be doing the video game industry a favor by breaking that taboo as development budgets explode but individual game prices stay mostly flat.
One factor pressuring Rockstar not to price the game too high is that new game consoles themselves have gotten way more expensive since launch. A new PS5 or Xbox Series X/S start at $600 now, a price many new players will have to pay this fall to play GTA VI if they haven’t already upgraded their consoles this hardware cycle.
