Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford's model son Hermes, 20, steals spotlight at Milan Fashion Week in first sighting in 18 months

Gossip Girl alum Kelly Rutherford was a beaming mom as she attended Tod's SS27 Milan Fashion Week show alongside son Hermes on Friday.

The 20-year-old model towered over his 57-year-old actress mother, who wore a fall-ready grey pantsuit, layered a dark leather jacket.

Hermes, whom Rutherford shares with ex-husband Daniel Giersch, was clad in ivory trousers, a white crew neck shirt, and a camel-colored suede shirt jacket.

He slicked his blonde hair back and added a pair of dark-tinted aviator sunglasses as well as light grey sneakers with white soles.

Rutherford, who is also mom to 17-year-old daughter Helena Giersch, carried a small, tan Hermès handbag and rounded out her look with black loafers.

Her blonde locks were parted down the middle and pulled back. 

The mother-son duo were last publicly pictured together in January 2025 during Paris Fashion Week.

Rutherford endured an ugly, public-facing international custody battle with her German businessman ex following their divorce in 2010.

The mom of two was granted joint custody of their children by a judge in Monaco, when Hermes was two years old and she was pregnant with Helena.

The judge ordered the kids to live full-time with Giersch in Monaco due to his work visa having been revoked, keeping him from returning to the United States.

Rutherford was subsequently forced to move to Monaco or make frequent visits in order to see the kids.

The actress spent nearly $2 million in legal fees throughout the six-year legal fight for full custody.

At one point, when she didn't send her kids back to Monaco following a six-week visit, she was accused of abduction. 

While appearing on Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop podcast in October 2025, she said she felt like her 'heart had been ripped out' during the ordeal.

She reflected on 'learning from making mistakes' and revealed she was thankful to be filming the teen drama Gossip Girl at the time, in which she portrayed Lily van der Woodsen. 

'It is a challenge that you aren't prepared for and you learn along the way and make mistakes and you get up and do your best. It's a process, like most things. It's focus,' she shared.

When asked how she got through being away from her children while working, she answered: 'I was so thankful to be on set because it was a good distraction, otherwise I don't know what I would have done. But it was a blessing in a way because I had to focus and show up.

'It doesn't matter what's going on in your life, but everyone was so supportive. I was thankful and dealt with it day by day and you learn a lot about yourself.'
