Being a Michelin-starred chef you would think his daily diet is incredibly complex.

Yet Gordon Ramsay's eating habits are surprisingly straightforward, with the star adopting a simple, portion-controlled diet.

Gordon, who today celebrates his 60th birthday, instead focuses all his time and effort on his extreme fitness routine.

He overhauled his lifestyle in his forties, completely transforming his relationship with food, alcohol and fitness after his wife Tana gave him a blunt reality check.

Gordon has since competed in gruelling half-marathons, full marathons, triathlons and Ironman events.

His love for fitness came to a halt after suffering a near-fatal bike accident which left him covered in horrific bruises in 2024.

Despite the worrying scare, Gordon vowed to 'never slow down' and was back on his bike in no time.

So, what are the secrets to his diet and fitness regime?

The chef, who celebrated his 60th birthday on Sunday, focuses all his time and effort on his extreme fitness routine

While Lucozade and Mars Bars were 'enough to give him energy' for gruelling 17-hour shifts in the kitchen, Gordon takes his nutrition much more seriously nowadays.

The king of the kitchen starts his day with a hearty protein shake, followed by scrambled eggs for lunch and chicken or fish for dinner.

Gordon typically prefers to eat smaller portions throughout the day rather than three main meals.

The chef's routine has transformed significantly since shedding around four stone in his early forties.

Gordon at the time admitted he looked like a 'sack of s***' due to high-stress working hours and irregular eating.

It was his wife Tana who inspired him to change for the better and improve his health after his father died from a heart attack aged just 53.

The couple share six children: Megan, 28, twins Jack and Holly, 26, Matilda, 24, Oscar, seven, and Jesse, two.

He said: 'I got to the age of 40, and I had no time; I was seven days a week, restaurants opening all over the place, Michelin Stars coming out of my a***, and all of a sudden, my life got consumed.

'So I took a good look at myself and realised I was overweight, out of control, and I'd forgotten my time. I'd forgotten the most important part of the day, and that was that 90-minute session five days a week to myself.'

Now, Gordon has found a regimented routine between his work, family life and fitness.

He starts his morning at 5.30am and heads out on a short run before doing some mobility and core strength.

Weekends are where Gordon really pushes himself with fitness.

Gordon said: 'Anywhere I go, whether it's a swim, a bike ride, or even a walk – keeping fit is essential. A healthy lifestyle leads a healthy life.

'And the energy you get from even a 20-minute training session, not necessarily every day but every other day, adding just 1 per cent to that, gets you to where you want to go.'

Earlier this year, Gordon kicked off his Sunday with a 2000m swim followed by a 60-minute strength workout.

He also enjoys long bike rides with his wife Tana, often completing up to 60 miles a time over the Surrey hills.

Yet the cycling isn't without risk, with Gordon revealing he nearly died in a horrific biking accident in America that left him with a huge purple bruise.

He first spoke about the accident on social media, sharing an Instagram post that read: 'With #FathersDay tomorrow I have a very important message for all the dads out there…

'WEAR A HELMET! This week I had a really bad accident while riding my bike in Connecticut.

'I'm doing ok and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato.'

'I'm thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Have a great Father's Day and be safe Gx.'

Despite the scare, Gordon insisted that he has no plans to slow down as he laughed off talk of retiring.

'I could sit back, put my feet up, buy a boat and f**k off to the Caribbean, but I have no interest in that,' he told Men's Health.

'I love the jeopardy and I can do that because I'm fit. I can do that because I've got the drive. When I haven't got the drive, then I'll decide to hang up the hat.'
