Godzilla Officially Returns In 2027 With Defense Force: X

Godzilla is as much an unkillable force in the realm of media as he is an immovable object within his own kaiju-infested universe. Despite weathering numerous abysmal adaptations, the king of the monsters frequently returns for yet another outing, his undeniably mesmerizing presence and the potential for abundant perspectives on the ground-stomping monolith demanding repeat performances regardless of the film, series, or video game he appears in.

This is, of course, a huge win for Godzilla fans, who get to see the legendary icon appear time and time again. With several massive Godzilla projects scheduled to release in 2026, there's plenty left for fans to immerse themselves in over the coming months. However, one project dogmatic devotees of the towering kaiju should keep their eyes on is the 2027 project, Defense Force: X, an all-new Godzilla outing that is sure to appeal to fans looking for a more casual approach to the aforementioned king of monsters.

Godzilla is no stranger to video games, and has even crossed over into the likes of Fortnite and Warzone. However, it has only been recently that we've begun to see an influx of modern Godzilla video games, as the iconic monster hasn't had his own dedicated release for quite some time. Fortunately, the slew of recent titles have proven to be rather enjoyable, giving Godzilla the same impressive presence in the world of video games as he's been enjoying on the big screen.

This extends also to mobile devices, where the next mainline Godzilla game is set to launch. Titled Godzilla Defense Force: X, this new mobile release is a strategy-focused game that sees players attempt to defend a city from assorted kaiju, the likes of which we've seen Godzilla fight time and time again. Players will need to fight against various kaiju in cities all across the world, utilizing different unique weapons and even the kaiju themselves once they've been unlocked.

Defense Force: X comes from developer MintRocket, who people will most likely know for the excellent Dave the Diver game (which also had a Godzilla crossover event). It looks set to be a fairly respectful adaptation, at least in the sense that it's doing its best to represent all eras of Godzilla, even changing his iconic roar depending on which version the player is using. Of course, it remains to be seen how this mobile title intends to make money, which could prove to be a problem for many.

Regardless, hopefully Defense Force: X proves to be an enjoyable title for fans and another great modern Godzilla game. At the very least, it should help further the efforts to get the kaiju into more experiences so that eventually he dominates our screens as much as he does the streets of Tokyo. One can only hope that eventually a Godzilla game will become the norm, and we'll be seeing the beloved and iconic character absolutely everywhere we look.
