God of War is Amazon MGM and Sony's TV adaptation of the popular video game series of the same name. The series centers on Kratos and his son Atreus, who set out on a dangerous mission across the Nine Realms to fulfill Faye's final wish by scattering her ashes from its highest peak.
An exclusive from TMZ revealed that insiders claimed Sony's adaptation of the popular video game franchise, God of War, has to temporarily delay filming after one of its stars got hurt on set. Ryan Hurst, who is taking on the role of Kratos, ripped his bicep while performing one of his own stunts. The publication's sources allege that the injury was so bad that it required surgery.
The report also states that filming could ultimately be delayed into 2027, depending on how long Hurst's recovery takes and when he is medically cleared to return to set. Neither Amazon MGM Studios nor Sony Pictures have publicly commented on God of War's production delay at the time of this article's publication.
The alleged postponement marks another hurdle for the live-action adaptation of God of War, which has already undergone major creative changes behind the scenes. In 2024, original showrunner Rafe Judkins exited the project before the series entered production. Later that year, Amazon MGM Studios brought in Ronald D. Moore to helm the project instead.
God of War will feature a massive ensemble cast. The series will star Callum Vinson (Atreus), Teresa Palmer (Sif), Max Parker (Heimdall), Ólafur Darri Ólafsso (Thor), Mandy Patinkin (Odin), Ed Skrein (Baldur), Louis Cunningham (Modi), Sonya Walger (Freya), Island Austin (Thrud), and Alastair Duncan (Mimir), Danny Woodburn (Brok), alongside Hurst.
God of War video game franchise was created by David Jaffe and developed by Sony's Santa Monica Studio. The series debuted in 2005 on PlayStation 2 and has become one of PlayStation's most recognizable properties. It currently has 10 games, with another installment in development.
Inspired by ancient mythology, the games follow Kratos, a Spartan warrior. The earlier chapters revolved around the protagonist's quest for revenge against the Olympian gods. After the 2018 God of War reboot, gamers get to play an older version of Kratos who tries to redeem himself and trains his son Atreus.
There is no official release date for God of War at the time of this article's publication.
