Recently seen in the 2025 sci-fi remake, The Running Man, Glen Powell is that one actor whom everyone gets thrilled to see perform on screens. The past few years have been quite interesting for the impressive star, with the most recent three, 2023, 2024, and 2025, bringing him significant attention as he transformed from a recognized supporting actor into a premier Hollywood leading man. While 2025 saw Powell shift into A-List territory, that may not have been possible without his wins in 2023 and 2024, which are often cited as the busiest years in his career.
Of his achievements in 2024, his most prominent is starring in the legacy sequel and summer blockbuster Twisters, which has become a global smash hit once again, thanks to streaming. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, Twisters is based on a story by Joseph Kosinski and was released in the U.S. on July 19, 2024. Not only did viewers love the disaster film, given its 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but critics also did, as it holds a 75% Tomatometer rating on the review aggregator website.
Twisters has been dominating Netflix charts worldwide over the past few days, ranking among the ten most popular movies on the streamer. This week has also seen the disaster film become the #1 title in countries like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela. It is also trending on the Apple TV store in Asia. Besides Powell, Twisters stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane, Maura Tierney, Harry Hadden-Paton, Daryl McCormack, David Corenswet, David Born, Nik Dodani, and Kiernan Shipka, among others.

Image via Universal PicturesAs a sequel to the 1996 masterpiece Twister, Twisters sees Edgar-Jones star as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years, who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Ramos), to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew; the more dangerous, the better. Meanwhile, as storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.
