EXCLUSIVE: The final piece of Sam Mendes‘ The Beatles puzzle is falling in place. The Dish hears Joseph Quinn is the choice to play George Harrison in one of the quartet of movies that Sam Mendes will direct on each iconic Mop Topper.
Sources out of Europe said that Quinn has been seen lugging around a guitar as he shoots Fantastic Four in the Human Torch role. Quinn also memorably had a turn playing rock star with the Metallica tune “Master of Puppets,” quite a death scene in the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things. He’s coming off a turn as the Roman Emperor Geta in Gladiator II, meaning that half of Mendes’ Beatles cast will be made up of Gladiator II stars.
We put this out there because these castings have been impossible to keep the lid on. Ridley Scott let slip in his Gladiator II awards conversation with Christopher Nolan that Mescal will be Paul McCartney, a possibility we had been hearing since shortly after Deadline broke the story of Mendes’ ambitious series of films for Sony Pictures for months. Ringo Starr himself leaked that Barry Keoghan will be pounding the skins as The Beatles drummer, and it has been widely expected that Harris Dickinson (Babygirl and A Murder at the End of the World) is the frontrunner to play John Lennon. This a sharp young cast and we imagine they’ll be co-mingling in each one of the separate Beatles films on the journeys of each band member.
None of the deals are closed, but this is how we hear it is going to go. Stay tuned.
