Scott Paterson, better known as the gruff yet lovable Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls , recently shared his thoughts on who he believes Rory should end up with. Since its debut in 2000, Gilmore Girls has become a staple and has captured viewers' hearts, with its memorable characters and dramatic yet heartfelt stories. Among its most memorable storylines are Rory Gilmore's romantic life and her three love interests, Dean, Jess and Logan. Patterson, who played a father figure to Rory, offered his unique perspective on her love life and who he thinks is the one for Rory.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant for the Stars Hollow tour at the Warner Bros. lot, in which Patterson will make an appearance on its final day on January 5, the actor was asked if he thought Rory had found the right guy for her. While his answer might not have settled the ever-going debate, it provided a new perspective on Rory's most iconic love interests. Read his answer below:

I don't think she's met him yet. I will say, if Jess really got his act together, and it seems that he did, he probably would be it. I think really all of them, if they get their acts together, could be good enough for her... if Logan grew up a little bit, it could be him. Dean could get there. Even the Wookie could get there [Laughter].

What This Means For Gilmore Girls

Rory's Future Continues To Be Uncertain

Patterson's comments offer a fresh perspective on Rory's love life, which was left in a pretty ambiguous place during Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. In the 2017 Netflix revival, Rory was romantically involved with Logan despite him being engaged to another woman, as well as casually dating and having a one-night stand with the now-infamous Wookie. By the end of A Year in the Life, Rory revealed she was pregnant, but the identity of the baby's father was never confirmed, which has left viewers wondering who the mysterious man could be, and what would end up happening in Rory's future.

Gilmore Girls: Why Rory’s Original Ending Was Perfect

Gilmore Girls season 7 is considered an outlier in the series, but at the same time, it also delivered an excellent original ending for Rory.

The debate about Rory's ideal partner and where her journey is headed is reignited once again. His perspective emphasizes the central themes of the series: personal growth and the complexities of relationships. Whether it's Jess, Logan, Dean, or someone entirely new, Rory's journey continues to resonate because it mirrors the realistic challenges of finding love while also finding a place in the world. A Year in the Life showed Rory's struggles to find direction, both professionally and personally, leaving many to wonder if a new partner would help her find her footing.

Although there are no plans for future installments of A Year in the Life, Patterson's belief that Rory might not have met "the one" keeps the fandom engaged and eager for more.

While Jess's presence in the revival gave viewers hope that the pair would come back together, Logan's affair with Rory also showed Rory's ongoing challenges with infidelity and maturity. This was already present in the original series when Rory had an affair with Dean while he was married to Lindsay in season 4, which left many viewers disappointed with Rory.

Patterson's Take Adds a New Layer to Rory’s Story

Patterson's comments add an intriguing layer to the ongoing debate regarding Rory's love life. He emphasizes that none of Rory's past love interests are inherently perfect as they are. Instead, he highlights the importance of growth and self-improvement, suggesting that any of them could become the right partner for Rory if they mature. However, the same ideals could be applied to Rory, who also continues to display a certain degree of immaturity and room for self-improvement when it comes to the choices she makes regarding her love life.

While his comments may not settle the age-old "Team Dean, Jess or Logan" debate, they serve as a reminder of the heart of Gilmore Girls, which lies in human connections and the opportunities to grow as a person. His belief that Rory has not met the right person for her leaves the door open for future updates. Although there are no plans for future installments of A Year in the Life, Patterson's belief that Rory might not have met "the one" keeps the fandom engaged and eager for more.
