Ghosts Official Cast Update Sets Up A Crucial Fake Out In Season 6

A crucial Ghosts season 6 fake-out appears to be in-the-works. One of the most inventive comedies on network TV, the CBS project has been a critical hit from the get-go, nabbing a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2025-2026 cycle for Ghosts started with a big twist that resulted in Carol being sucked off after attempting to save Jay and Pete from Elias's schemes. Subsequently, the project continued to deliver on interesting individual and collective arcs that further endear the series to the public.

Ghosts season 5 had Woodstone Mansion in crisis a few times. Sometimes, the spirits made the situation worse by giving into their worst tendencies. Luckily, Sam and Jay always found a way to rectify every issue, effectively saving their home and their source of income. Individually, some ghosts had a busier season 5 than others, including Pete, who used his superpowers to the full extent during the cycle. Unfortunately for him, Ghosts season 5 ended with his fate hanging in the balance.

Richie Moriarty Seems To Be Back For Ghosts Season 5

For context, the final moments of Ghosts season 5 saw Jay and Kyle running out of time to save Pete from being away from Woodstone for far too long. It resulted in the cast's resident traveler slowly disappearing while he rode in the cab with the duo. This left viewers worried about the fate of the character, especially since Ghosts has, likely intentionally, kept the rules for the dead vague. Since Pete is the only one from the main cast to have traveling powers, there's no point of reference that would help decipher his fate.

That said, an official update from Flower actor, Sheila Carrasco suggests that Pete's potential exit is nothing but another fake out. On her Instagram Story (via TVInsider), she shared a snap of the cast sheet for season 6, and it includes Richie Moriarty, which is a concrete indication that he is coming back for Ghosts season 6. For what it's worth, there was no beam when Pete disappeared, meaning that he wasn't sucked-off. Instead, this phenomenon is an entirely different scenario than what spirits that moved went through.

Why Ghosts Season 5 Needs To Say Goodbye To A Main Spirit Sooner Rather Than Later

Regardless of the specifics, the fact that this is yet another fake exit makes it frustrating. Ghosts has had a couple of similar scenarios in the past. While it can't backtrack from the lingering cliffhanger now, the best that CBS can do is make sure that the payoff to this plot is fresh and unique. Admittedly, Moriarty could still end up leaving even if he returns in the first few episodes of Ghosts season 6. Hopefully, however, the comedy moves away from this kind of nail-biter moving forward.

In the bigger scheme of things, Ghosts desperately needs to have at least one spirit finally get sucked off. As great as it is to have all of them in Woodstone and as sad as it will be to see any of them go, the show is cheapening its storytelling by not offering any payoff to the dead's original agreement with Sam. When Ghosts started, Rose McIver's character promised to help them move on from this limbo state. Several years later, the main roster of spirits remains intact, hinting that Sam isn't doing a good job of keeping her word.
