After seven years, the ultimate Star Wars reunion has taken place with George Lucas, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill.
The legendary Star Wars creator and Han Solo and Luke Skywalker actors had their last public reunion in 2019 for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland. They went on stage in front of a crowd for the occasion and spoke to commemorate the debut alongside Lando Calrissian star Billy Dee Williams and Bob Iger, who was still Disney's CEO at the time.
Now, Lucas has reunited with Ford and Hamill at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opening. On Instagram, Hamill shared pictures from the event, including one with just him and Lucas, and wrote, "Congratulations to Mellody & George on the opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art! 18 years in the making, it is 5-stories high, filled with some of the greatest artwork, props & memorabilia you’ll ever see. An instant Los Angeles LANDMARK Thanks (again), George!!!"
ExtraTV shared a picture of Lucas and Ford together at the event, along with images of Lucas' wife and museum co-founder Mellody Hobson, and attendees that include Hamill, Calista Flockhart, Samuel L. Jackson, Ron Howard, Bryce Dallas Howard, Michael B. Jordan, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Keke Palmer, Oprah Winfrey, Queen Latifah, Meg Ryan, Jack Quaid, Emma Watson, Cynthia Erivo, Kerry Washington, Sofía Vergara, Tyler Perry, Orlando Bloom, Topher Grace, and Nicolas Cage. Steven Spielberg, Greta Gerwig, and many other prominent figures in the film and television industry were also present.
Credit: Extra TVStar Wars is, unsurprisingly, a key part of the museum, from a life-size physical replica of General Grievous and his TSMEU-6 wheel bike from Revenge of the Sith to concept art designed by Ralph McQuarrie. Select episodes of Star Wars Detours, an animated parody series that was never released, can also be seen as part of the exhibits. As per the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art name, though, many other types of art are also featured, including works by illustrator Norman Rockwell, comic artist Jack Kirby, and painter Frida Kahlo.
As an integral part of the legacy of Lucas, Star Wars, popular culture, and narrative art, it is fitting for Ford and Hamill to have been in attendance, in addition to reuniting with the filmmaker and museum co-founder. The other member of the original trilogy's trio, Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia Organa, passed away in 2016, and Hamill was asked about her at the event by E! News, sharing that "I just miss her. If she were here right now, we'd all be laughing."
Lucas has been working on his museum for many years now, and Ford and Hamill have been involved in various non-Star Wars projects in recent times. Ford reprised the role of Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, played President Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, Jacob Dutton in Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel series 1923, and Dr. Paul Rhoades in Apple TV's Shrinking, for which he has received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Hamill did voice Luke Skywalker in the LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Series, but has otherwise appeared or done voice work more recently in The Life of Chuck, The Long Walk, Invincible, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and The Wild Robot.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opens to the public on September 22.
