Also interviewed for George Lucas: The Lost Golden Age and in post-production are Rick McCallum, the producer of Young Indy, the Star Wars Special Editions, and the Star Wars prequels, as well as George Lucas' closest collaborator during this era, composer Joel McNeely, and director Mike Newell, among numerous industry figures and artists. McNeely also agreed to compose an original theme for the documentary.
Holmstrom and Noa's documentary will shine a light on Lucasfilm's technological leaps in digital filmmaking, spearheaded by George Lucas' vision in the 1990s. The groundbreaking CGI and digital effects seen in the Star Wars prequels began with breakthroughs made by Young Indy, and continued in the little-seen Radioland Murders, before Lucas made his controversial changes to the original Star Wars trilogy when the Special Editions were released in 1997.
George Lucas: The Lost Golden Age is an international production backed by a massively successful Kickstarter that raised over $51,000, more than tripling its initial funding goal. Estimated at a 2-hour runtime, George Lucas: The Lost Golden Age will premiere in Los Angeles in the first week of April 2027, timed with Star Wars Celebration at the Los Angeles Convention Center, as well as the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars, and the premiere of Star Wars: Starfighter, in May.
