Using Tartaglia’s best build in Genshin Impact is the ideal way of optimizing his damage output and, therefore, enhancing his performance as a main DPS in team comps. When Tartaglia, also known as Childe, was first released as a playable character in Version 1.1, he quickly became the best Hydro DPS in the game. That has since changed, as Tartaglia pales in comparison to some newer and deadlier units, such as Neuvillette or Mualani in Genshin Impact. Nevertheless, the 5-star Hydro Bow user is still one of the most reliable sources of Hydro DMG, as long as he is well-built.

With his Elemental Skill, Tartaglia can change into a melee stance, changing his Normal and Charged Attacks to deal Hydro DMG. Additionally, when he attacks enemies, he can inflict Riptide on them, and CRIT hits against enemies with Riptide deal AoE Hydro DMG. Tartaglia’s Burst changes on which stance he is in. If he’s in his regular ranged stance, he fires a special arrow dealing AoE Hydro DMG and applying Riptide. In his melee stance, Tartaglia’s Burst deals massive AoE Hydro DMG and triggers Riptide Blast, which deals the aforementioned AoE Hydro DMG in Genshin Impact.

You Have Several Options For The Hydro Character

Before taking full advantage of Tartaglia’s adaptive kit, you’ll need to optimize his build, and that starts with picking a proper bow for him to work with. The best weapon for Tartaglia is Polar Star, his signature 5-star bow. Polar Star offers a good base ATK (608 at level 90) and a very strong CRIT Rate sub-stat (33.1% at level 90). Furthermore, it increases the user’s Skill and Burst DMG by 12%. After a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Skill, or Burst hits an enemy, one stack of Ashen Nightstar is gained for 12 seconds.

The table below lists the best builds for Tartaglia (Childe) in Genshin Impact, including recommended weapons, strongest Artifacts, ideal stats, and more:

Tartaglia (Childe)'s Best Build In Genshin Impact

Weapon

  1. Polar Star (Best 5-star)
  2. Thundering Pulse (Substitute 5-star)
  3. The Viridiscent Hunt (Best 4-star)
  4. Hamayumi (F2P 4-star)

Artifact

  1. Nymph's Dream (4-pieces)
  2. Heart of Depth (4-pieces - substitute)

Stat Priority

  1. CRIT DMG / CRIT Rate
  2. ATK
  3. Hydro DMG
  4. Elemental Mastery (sub-stat)
  5. Energy Recharge (sub-stat)

Skill Priority

  1. Elemental Skill
  2. Elemental Burst
  3. Normal Attack

When 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar are present, the user’s ATK is increased by 10/20/30/48%. These stacks are counted independently of others. This fits right into Tartaglia’s gameplay kit, which sees him rotate across all his active Talents during combat – as such, all four stacks should be naturally gained. This weapon was tailor-made for him, so it makes sense why Polar Star is the best-in-slot for Tartaglia. If you don’t have access to it, you can instead use Thundering Pulse, which is also the best weapon for Yoimiya in Genshin Impact.

Thundering Pulse offers an equal base ATK (608 at level 90) but it has a CRIT DMG sub-stat (66.2% at level 90). With it, the user gains a 20% ATK buff and Thunder Emblem. At stacks 1/2/3, Normal Attack DMG is increased by 12%/24%/40%. Each stack is counted separately and is gained through Normal Attacks with Elemental DMG (five seconds), casting and Elemental Skill (10 seconds), and having less than 100% Energy. This also fits in quite well with Tartaglia because he should be able to gain stacks with all three methods thanks to his melee stance in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Needs One Major Update To Weekly Boss Fights

Farming weekly bosses in Genshin Impact is getting tougher by the minute and a simple update to the system would solve the biggest issue.

If these 5-star weapons are not available, especially because they are premium items, you can opt for bows that are easier to obtain. The best 4-star weapon for Tartaglia is The Viridiscent Hunt, a bow that has a medium-ranged base ATK (510 at level 90) and a useful CRIT Rate sub-stat (27.6% at level 90). Upon hit, Normal and Aimed Shot Attacks have a 50% chance to create a Cyclone, which attracts enemies and deals 40% of ATK as DMG to them every 0.5 seconds for four seconds. This effect can only trigger once every 14 seconds.

The Viridiscent Hunt can only be obtained as a reward for reaching level 30 in the paid track of the battle pass in Genshin Impact.

If you can’t gain access to The Viridiscent Hunt, there is a good F2P (free-to-play) option for him. The best free 4-star bow for Tartaglia is Hamayumi. This weapon grants a low base ATK (454 at level 90) and a useful ATK sub-stat (55.1% at level 90). Its skill increases the Normal Attack DMG by 16% and Charged Attack DMG by 12%. Additionally, when the user’s Energy reaches 100%, the effect is increased by 100%. The good thing about Hamayumi is that craftable once you collect the Mysterious Conches in Genshin Impact.

As such, you could get Hamayumi to R5 (Refinement level 5). At R5, Hamayumi’s Normal Attack DMG bonus is taken to 32% and the Charged Attack DMG buff is increased to 24%. This could make the weapon even more valuable than The Viridiscent Hunt at R1. Players will have to invest some time into unlocking it and then farming the materials to craft it, but it should pay off. Other DMG-focused bows like Amos’ Bow, Skyward Harp, and Rust could also fit Tartaglia in Genshin Impact.

Best Artifacts & Stats For Tartagila (Childe)

Prioritize Offensive Stats

Childe sits before a mountain in Genshin Impact.

The next step in Tartaglia’s build is to give him Artifacts. The best Artifact set for Childe is Nymph’s Dream. With two pieces, the set increases the user’s Hydro DMG by 15%. The four-piece bonus sees that after Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks, Skills, and Bursts hit opponents, one stack of Mirrored Nymph is triggered for eight seconds. When under the effect of one, two, three, or more Mirrored Nymph stacks, ATK is increased by 7%/16%/25%, and Hydro DMG bonus is increased by 4%/9%/15%. The stacks created by each method are counted independently in Genshin Impact.

Alternatively, you could equip Tartaglia with Heart of Depth, though Nymph’s Dream is still a better option altogether.

The stats to seek when farming Artifacts for Tartaglia are ATK, CRIT DMG, CRIT Rate, and Hydro DMG Bonus. These are the main stats that will increase his offensive powers. As sub-stats, you can also benefit from Elemental Mastery, which helps increase the power of Elemental Reactions that he helps trigger, and Energy Recharge, which will fuel his Burst.

Best Team Comps For Tartagila (Childe)

Childe Is A Versatile Hydro DPS

Tartaglia is a very versatile Hydro DPS and can fit in with numerous different team comps depending on the Elemental Reaction you are pushing for. Tartaglia could pair up with Mavuika or Xiangling for a Vaporize team or with Yae Miko or Ororon for a taser team. He could also work well in a Bloom, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon team comp thanks to how well he can apply Hydro to interact with Dendro on enemies. There are many possibilities and he could even pair up with Yumemizuki Mizuki in Genshin Impact for a Hydro-Swirl team comp.

The table below lists a few team comp suggestions for Tartaglia:

Tartaglia (Childe)'s Best Team Comps In Genshin Impact

Premium Vaporize Team

  • Tartaglia (Main DPS)
  • Mavuika or Xiangling (Pyro Sub-DPS)
  • Furina (Hydro Sub-DPS & HP-Loss Enabler) or Yelan (Hydro Sub-DPS)
  • Xilonen (Geo Healer & Buffer) or Bennett (Pyro Healer & Buffer)

Hyperbloom Team

  • Tartaglia (Main DPS)
  • Raiden Shogun or Fischl or Ororon (Electro Sub-DPS)
  • Nahida or Collei (Dendro Support)
  • Xilonen (Geo Healer & Buffer), Kokomi (Healer & Hydro Resonance) or Kuki Shinobu (Electro Healer)

F2P Vaporize Team

  • Tartaglia (Main DPS)
  • Xiangling or Pyro Traveler (Pyro Sub-DPS)
  • Sucrose (Anemo Support + Swirl Trigger)
  • Barbara (Healer & Hydro Resonance)

Overall, you should only consider that the rest of the team comp is there to help Tartaglia. He will remain on the field most of the time, so his allies need to provide off-field support, be it in the form of buffs or applying other elements to enemies for Reactions to occur.

Talent Priority For Tartagila (Childe)

Childe’s Elemental Skill Is The Most Important Part Of His Kit

Childe prepares for combat during a Liyue cutscene in Genshin Impact.

When leveling up Tartaglia’s Talents, you may have to prioritize some over others. The first priority is leveling up Tartaglia’s Elemental Skill, from which most of his damage output will come. The next priority is his Elemental Burst, which is also vital to his rotation, even if it’s limited by Energy. The last priority should be his Normal Attacks.

Genshin Impact: One Silly Farming Mechanic Should Be Deactivated

There is one silly and outdated farming mechanic in Genshin Impact that needs to be reevaluated by HoYoverse because of how limiting it can be.

Despite his elaborate dual-stance gameplay kit, Tartaglia’s build is a fairly simple one to optimize. You may struggle a bit finding Artifact pieces with the best stats, as building DPS units tends to require a lot of grinding, but with this build, Tartaglia can become a powerful Hydro main DPS – perhaps an alternative for your ventures into the Spiral Abyss in Genshin Impact.
