The Queen of the North is about to become a gun-toting British archeologist. According to recent reports, Game of Thrones Sophie Turner is set to play the lead role of Lara Croft in Amazon’s Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider TV series.

The Week In Games: Reignited Rivalries And More New Releases

She has been attached to the upcoming series since it was reported in October that the 28-year-old actress tested for the role along with Bohemian Rhapsody actress Lucy Boynton. If Turner officially secures the role, she’ll be working with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is executive producing and writing for the series. The role will also mark Turner’s fourth post-Game of Thrones TV role after Survive on Quibi (Remember that?!), HBO’s The Staircase and British crime drama Joan.

The series was picked up for a series order by the streamer in May following the critical acclaim and success of another video game adaptation, Fallout. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said the series will “honor the legacy of this iconic character,” and Waller-Bridge maintained that it’ll be an adventure, “bats n all,” referencing the enemies Croft frequently runs into, as one does when raiding tombs. If this holds true, Turner will likely be acrobatically flipping into tight areas trying not to fall and start back from the beginning, a reality I’m sure has just retraumatized anyone who cried tears of frustration playing the original PlayStation games.

There is no word on when filming will begin or a prospective release date. Given the fact 2024 is practically over and the leading lady still hasn’t been officially confirmed, a 2025 premiere seems highly unlikely. That’s especially true since Amazon is planning to create a Tomb Raider universe by connecting the TV series with a planned upcoming film and video game.

If Turner is able to able to rule a kingdom, she’ll have no problem with a few bats and dirty tombs.
