Combining the throne room politics of Game of Thrones with the character-driven quests of The Witcher, this brand-new management RPG is taking Steam by storm and, as somebody who is also currently playing it, I can agree that it deserves the praise.
Released back on 6 August, Sovereign Tower is a "Round Table management RPG" from developer Wild Wits Games. Players will take on the role of a Sovereign who must run a magical tower and, most importantly, manage its Round Table Knights by assigning quests and pushing the kingdom in whichever direction you see fit. Whether that means helping the nobles, scholars, merchants, or the people, the choice is yours.
Who you bring to the Round Table is also up to you and, with plenty of eccentric characters who want a seat, you will soon find that managing their day-to-day lives is easier said than done. From the naive but talented Angelica to the preened Gideon and everyone in between, you will manage which quests they embark on across the kingdom by slowly building up their skills and keeping note of their strengths and weaknesses. However, if they should fail, it could prove catastrophic for the kingdom and even deadly.
"Ah, finally - a suitable Sovereign for the job. Yes, you, right there, come sit on this comfy throne. Ah you like the feel of that, don’t you? Congratulations, you’re hired! My name is Arlin and I’m your advisor. Welcome to your first day, and please, allow me to provide thee with a day in the life of a Sovereign and you can then decide how will you rule, my liege..."
Luckily, you will have people to help you along the way as the Sovereign. This includes your right-hand man, Arlin, witches who brew potions, stablehands, shopkeepers, and even a handmaid who will whisper gossip into your ear about your Knights. Most importantly, however, is the Demon that lives in the bowels of the tower. With each day seeing you hearing an audience and handing out quests, with some missions even having a time limit, you may soon discover that you have made the wrong choice. Luckily, the Demon offers you the ability to rewind back time, but all power has its cost.
With every decision you make having a great impact on the kingdom and its people, you must strategize your every choice. If you do well, you could make allies of neighboring towns, recruit its people, and make the kingdom prosperous once more. Or, you could just betray everybody and spend all the gold as you see fit. The choice is entirely yours! Oh, and yes, you can romance your subjects...
Sovereign Tower is now available to download on PC and with an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating on Steam, it seems as though this is a hidden gem you do not want to miss out on.
