Gabrielle Union Reveals Daughter Kaavia Was Not Impressed By 'Bring It On'
Gabrielle Union’s daughter needs her to bring it.
Indeed, the actress and Dwyane Wade’s daughter Kaavia James isn’t exactly impressed by Bring it On—though she hasn’t shied away from demonstrating her inner Clover.
“I mean she’ll do a little bit of Bur,” the 53-year-old told E! News’ Will Marfuggi during at the premiere of GOAT in Los Angeles on Feb. 6. “But she thinks it’s not the coolest.”
Confirming the 7-year-old—who has been dubbed Shady Baby by her parents is not her mom’s no. 1 fan onscreen, Gabrielle reiterated, “Mom’s not the coolest.”
While Kaavia has only seen “parts” of the cult classic film—starring Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku and Jesse Bradford that marked its 25th anniversary in September—Gabrielle doesn’t mind, adding, “I don’t know if she’s ready for all of the humor in Bring it On.”
Gabrielle—who has been married to Dwyane since 2014—isn’t totally freaking out about her daughter’s critiques as she’s recently given her character Jett Fillmore from GOAT—which exclusively hits theaters on Feb. 13—her approval.
“She’s been playing with my figurine,” Gabrille shared. “And she’s seen the trailer, so this will be her first time seeing it.”
One thing Kaavia isn’t too cool for is matching her mother. Gabrielle and her mini took the carpet at the premiere in coordinating Proenza Schouler looks. For her part, Gabrielle put her midriff on display two-toned tiger print dress, and Kaavia added her own flare in a mini version of the design with blue color blocked print.

Making it a family affair, Gabrielle and Kaavia were joined on the carpet by Dwyane—who also stars in the movie with his wife, Steph Curry and Caleb McLaughlin. What’s more, the Deliver Us from Eva star noted that one of the keys to their 11-year marriage is having an all-star squad of couple friends, including Steph and Ayesha Curry.
“Surrounding ourselves with other great couples like Steph and Ayesha who love each other and who are happy together and they’re not bickering,” Gabrielle told E! News. “And they’re invested in the success of our marriage just as much as we are that helps. It’s very much a community effort.”
