Gabourey Sidibe’s 4-Month-Old Twin Babies Are Closer Than Ever in Cute Video
Gabourey Sidibe is offering a history lesson.
The Precious actor set the record straight on how to pronounce her last name after admitting fans have been saying it wrong over the years.
“Can we myth-bust for one second?” Entertainment Tonight reporter Nischelle Turner asked Gabourey, 42, in a Feb. 4 interview. “Is it ‘Sidi-bay’ or ‘Sid-uh-bay?’”
The American Horror Story alum laughed before clarifying, “It’s actually ‘Si-dee-bay.’ It’s Senegalese and it’s got accents that I don’t use, but I usually say ‘Sidi-bay’ because Americans need things to rhyme. So I say, ‘It’s ‘Sidi-bay’ like city by the bay.’”
However, that wasn’t the end of her seminar. Gabourey, mom to 21-month-old twins Cooper and Maya with husband Brandon Frankel, also confirmed her first name isn’t ‘Gab-uh-ray’ as many people have thought.
“Again, Americans like for things to rhyme,” she jokingly explained, “so I say my name is ‘Gab-uh-ray’ like cabaret. But it’s actually ‘Gah-boo-ray.’ I would rather be called Gabby, or even ‘Gab-uh-ray’ or some name that I decide is good enough, rather than it being completely butchered.”
But her moniker isn’t the only personal detail on which she offered insight. The film director also marveled over her little ones and how she and Brandon—who got married in March 2021—are growing accustomed to their extraverted personalities.
“I love them so much,” she swooned. “They are so fun and are weirdly advanced. Having an advanced child sounds real fun until they start cursing you out. They talk so much already [at just] 22 months. The doctor said that they, ‘Speak as much as a 2-year-old,’ when they were 15 months, and they know more words now.”

Though her twins are similar in the communication department, Gabourey noted they have their own separate moods that remind her of her dynamic with Brandon.
“Maya basically has my personality,” she expressed. “My son is like his dad. He’s so affectionate and always wants a hug. And my daughter would be like, ‘Eh, I guess.’”
Indeed, her husband has a warm heart for his loved ones, and it’s a quality Gabourey admitted has strengthened their relationship.
“He’s my soulmate,” she expressed. “He’s so in love with his kids. He would say, ‘I want a little you so I can raise you right this time.’ And he got a little me.”
