FX is saddling up to adapt a new Western crime series from acclaimed comics.
According to Deadline, FX is developing a drama series based on That Texas Blood, the critically acclaimed Image Comics series by Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips. The FX series is being adapted by Jim Mickle and E.L. Katz, reuniting after their acclaimed Sundance TV series Hap and Leonard (2016–2018).
Described as a blend of Cormac McCarthy and John Carpenter, That Texas Blood is a neo-noir Western following Sheriff Joe Bob Coates of Ambrose County, Texas, who "questions his place in an increasingly violent world when a man returns home following the sudden disappearance of his brother, causing a spiral down into a past filled with treachery and blood."
Jim Mickle and E.L. Katz are set to write and executive-produce the series, with Mickle also directing under 20th Television. The project marks a reunion for the pair after their collaboration on Mickle's acclaimed series Hap and Leonard, which ran for three seasons and became the highest-rated original show in Sundance TV history.
Additional executive producers on FX's That Texas Blood series include Michael Waldron and Adam Fasullo through Anomaly Pictures, which is based at 20th Television under an overall deal, along with Adam Fishbach, Jeremy Platt, Linda Moran, and the comics co-creator Chris Condon. His fellow co-creator, Jacob Phillips, is also attached as co-executive producer.
