Katie Price's eye-opening Sky documentary sees Gareth Gates speak about their 2002 fling for the first time
The former glamour model insisted she has nothing to hide, and that is certainly the case judging by the first two episodes of her Sky docuseries
Gareth Gates blasts romance 'betrayal'
Following his rise to stardom as a fresh-faced Pop Idol star, Gareth had a short-lived romance with Katie in 2002 while she was pregnant with her son Harvey.
At the time, Gareth was just 17, and he lost to virginity to Katie – who was 23 – but when the relationship came to light he denied it had happened, upsetting the star.
Katie had expressed her surprise when she learned Gareth agreed to take part in the documentary, though director Paddy Wivell has said it 'took six months back and forth' before he signed on.
In the series, the singer says: 'She was amazing, before I actually met her the only thing I knew of her was glamour model, a girl so you have this image of persona of what they're going to be like and she was completely different.
'She was very soft, I sensed vulnerability – like me – kind, very loving and she was anything but Jordan. I got to know Katie.'
Asked if he was in love with Katie, Gareth described them as 'two smitten teenagers,' adding: 'I certainly felt feelings of love for Katie, I really did, it was the first time I was feeling those things.
'I didn't know what it was, but yes I certainly did love her, to be in love… I think I was too young.'
Gareth shared that he was warned by his management that confirming he dated Katie would be 'career-ending.'
He said: 'That's hard to take because they see Jordan, and I see Katie. They see this glamour model, Page 3 girl, I'm sort of young and innocent and they see it as a big conflict.'
After Katie gave birth to her son Harvey, she and Gareth came face-to-face at an awards ceremony, but once again the singer denied they dated.
Katie said in the documentary she was furious at the denial saying: 'All of a sudden everyone takes his side and I'm branded a liar. I'm like the nutcase of it all.
'I was left in the lurch and it really hurt me, it's pure lies being said about me and I am like ''If you hurt me, I'll get you back by telling the truth, like revenge.''
Katie went on to give a tell-all interview where she revealed details about her romance with Gareth.
Speaking about reading the interview, Gareth added: 'She betrayed me by selling the story. I was quite shocked and hurt, that impacted me hugely.
'Firstly because of the sense of betrayal but it was more than that, I'd denied this to some of the closest people around me and I couldn't really forgive myself for that.'
As Katie was asked by a producer if she 'humiliated' Gareth, she said: 'Yeah I'm sure it did affect him at the time, I was young, I went into all these details.
'That's a moment I wish I never did. Yeah I shouldn't have gone into detail about it but I did. If I could turn back time I wish I never took his virginity for his sake.
'I just sometimes wish he could have saved it for someone that he loved and could have had a relationship with.'
Early in the first episode of her docuseries, Katie recalls being sexually abused when she was just seven years old
Childhood sexual abuse
Early in the first episode of her docuseries, Katie recalls being sexually abused when she was just seven years old.
While looking at childhood photos of herself, she says: 'I just remember it being a sunny day.
'To walk to the park there was a cut way through a bush, there was three of us, there was just a man there.
'I can just sort of remember him approaching us, wanting us to do stuff to him and him wanting to do stuff to us. I can remember it clear as day, his face, the feelings of what he did.
'And then this boy and this girl walked past and they must have called the police.
'But I just remember, police talking, I don't know what they asked but I do remember they took my knickers.'
One of Katie's most well-publicised romances came with Another Level singer Dane Bowers in the late 1990s, with the star even calling him 'the love of her life'
In the documentary, Dane shares his reaction after a devastated Katie took an overdose when she ended their relationship
Overdose after Dane Bowers split
One of Katie's most well-publicised romances came with Another Level singer Dane Bowers in the late 1990s, with the star even calling him 'the love of her life.'
She shares her devastation when he ended their relationship over her decision to pose naked for a calendar, and in the documentary admits she took an overdose while battling with the heartbreak.
She says: 'He just didn't want to know me, just done, done with me.
'Then I cried so much and he left the flat and I just remember being on my own, devastated, and I took a whole load of pills.'
Dane says: 'Rushing to hospital was not a nice feeling, the thought of ''is she alright?'' I wasn't really told anything at that point.
'I got there and she was in the hospital bed, she had a picture of me on her chest and I thought ''what the? You're taking the p*** here.''
'I know it sounds terrible but ''I've just come here and I'm in this situation that you forced'', and like ''how dare you?'' There was definitely part of that in my head.
'But it's still very difficult when you're looking at someone and you do care for them and you do feel sorry for them and you do want them to be OK, so there's a mixed bag of feelings.'
Katie continues: 'It was horrific. [I] Just wanted him, it was awful.'
When asked if it was a real attempt on her life, she says: 'It was attention. Did I really want to kill myself? No.
'But I just wanted him to want me and I thought doing that, he'd know how much I love him and I'd get him back. No, still didn't want to know.'
Katie also shared her experience flying to Los Angeles to meet Hugh Hefner in 2001, after getting the chance to fulfil her dream by posing for the cover of Playboy magazine
Meeting Hugh Hefner and her night in the Playboy mansion
Katie also shared her experience flying to Los Angeles in 2001, after getting the chance to fulfil her dream by posing for the cover of Playboy magazine.
She had been invited to the iconic Playboy mansion by founder Hugh Hefner, who was notorious for having multiple, beautiful girlfriends despite his advancing age.
Katie says: 'He wanted me to be one of his girlfriends, but I didn't as I didn't want to have sex with him, I thought it would be like having sex with my granddad.'
Of course, parties at the Playboy mansion were notorious, with Katie revealing: 'Girls in bikinis all done up, walking around the pool, playing beach ball and he's just sitting there with his mate in his dressing gown, playing cards and all that's going on, I'd look out the window and it was like Barbie land.'
Detailing the nights out, which were strictly allocated to certain days, Katie said: 'Then we'd come back, then we'd all go into a bathroom, all get in the bath, have a little wash then we'd move to his bedroom, massive bed, sex toys, and a big screen with porn playing.
'Some girls are completely naked, I had my knickers on, some other girls had knickers on. You see girls getting off with each other, having sex.
'I had a little experiment, but what did it for me was seeing them climb aboard naked Hugh Hefner.
'And I remember looking at his willy and thinking ''God it looks so young''. So that would happen Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays then the other days were just normal, then on Sundays he would have movie nights.'
Katie has previously earned praise for her raising of her son Harvey as a single mother, after a short-lived fling with footballer Dwight Yorke
But the documentary reveals that Katie clashed with her mother Amy over her decision to pose for a photo shoot with her son
Clashes with her mum Amy about Harvey
Katie has previously earned praise for her raising of her son Harvey as a single mother, after a short-lived fling with footballer Dwight Yorke.
Harvey has a series of debilitating conditions including Prader-Willi syndrome, autism, septo-optic dysplasia, ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder.
In the documentary, Katie shares that she returned to work just 10 days after giving birth to her son, with her mum Amy joining her at photo shoots to look after him.
Katie went on to pose for a photo shoot with Harvey, which she said led to clashes with her mum Amy.
She reveals: 'Me and my mum about Harvey, we've always had these debates.'
The documentary then shows a clip of Katie saying: 'What I'm saying is, if I'm in a cafe holding him or on holiday, someone is going to take a picture of him and go and sell it, so what's the difference with me doing nice pictures and selling them myself?'
Amy insists that Katie shouldn't be making money out of her son, with Katie replying: 'Well someone else is going to.'
In the documentary, Amy explains: 'She went for interviews and she'd take him, I couldn't believe it really, making money out of Harvey. I really thought that should have been kept private.
'He's a vulnerable child and why would you want everyone to know? I just couldn't understand the logic, why it was important.'
Katie says: 'I'm in the public eye, just because I've found out he's blind I'm not going to hide him away, why? I'm proud that I've got my son.
'I've monetised my life since 17, everything I do has been monetised, so why would that change when I've had Harvey?'
