Foxconn already builds a huge share of the machines that power the AI boom. Its chairman says that share could keep climbing.
In an interview with CNBC’s Christine Tan, Hon Hai Technology Group Chairman Young Liu said Foxconn’s slice of the global AI server market could reach 50% in a couple of years. For a company long known mainly as Apple’s iPhone assembler, that is quite a career change.
From around 40% to half the market
Liu put Foxconn’s current share of the global AI server market at around 40%. He said it could rise to roughly 45% next year before potentially reaching 50% within a few years.
“I think we can grow up to 50 percent,” Liu said.
Liu also told CNBC that Foxconn is looking to boost manufacturing in the United States.
The growth so far has been steep. Foxconn’s AI server share was about 30% in 2023, according to the research findings. It has since moved to an estimated 40%.
The iPhone company is now a server company
The revenue mix tells the story better than any slogan. By the second quarter of 2026, Foxconn’s cloud and networking division accounted for 51% of total revenue, the research findings show.
That figure stood at 41% in the second quarter of 2025. The division has now overtaken the smart consumer electronics segment, which includes iPhone assembly.
Profit followed. Foxconn posted record net profit of NT$60 billion, roughly $1.86 billion, in the second quarter of 2026.
Production is scaling too. AI server rack shipments are expected to more than double year-over-year in 2026, according to the research findings.
Output from the company’s Houston facility is set to ramp to 2,000 racks per week.
Foxconn is also spending outside Taiwan and the US. The company announced a US$136 million investment in Mexico in October 2026 to expand AI server production capacity.
Why the US push matters
The Houston facility is a central piece of that footprint. A ramp to 2,000 racks per week from a single US site would give Foxconn a meaningful domestic presence close to many of its cloud customers.
Foxconn’s relationship with Nvidia is part of the backdrop. The research findings point to major partnerships with firms like Nvidia as a driver of the company’s strong revenue growth.
What this means for the AI hardware race
For investors, the clearest signal is that AI infrastructure spending still appears to be flowing through the supply chain at scale. Foxconn’s forecast of doubling rack shipments implies customers are still placing large orders.
The research findings note Foxconn’s push could set a competitive precedent that pressures rivals and influences pricing strategies across the server market.
Liu framed the 50% figure as something Foxconn “can” reach, and the timeline is a couple of years out.
What to watch next is fairly concrete. Liu’s own markers provide the scorecard: around 45% share next year, and the Houston ramp toward 2,000 racks per week.
Quarterly revenue mix will also be telling. If the cloud and networking division keeps widening its lead over consumer electronics, the company’s identity shift will be hard to dispute.
