Fortnite’s Big New Update Is Here With New Sprites and a Retro ‘Big Head’ Mode

Find new sprites, try unvaulted weapons, and help the Dark Knight

The first update (v42.10) of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is here, and it's time for players to download the patch, log back into the game, and jump from the Battle Bus onto the Battle Royale island. This update brings more sprites, new overrides, and several weapons to keep things interesting.

What's new in Fortnite's Sept. 3 update?

As soon as players drop onto the island, they will notice that multiple weapons have been added to Fortnite as loot hacks, namely Overwatch's Caduceus Staff, Mortal Kombat's Scorpion's Combat Kit, the Wrecker Revolver, Deadeye Assault Rifle, and the Holo Twister Assault Rifle. As loot hacks, players will be able to unlock these weapons using Sprite Dust.

These weapons and items are bound to shake up the metagame, but maybe not as much as the new sprites: Onigiri, X-Ray, Mega Man, and Overshield.

Lastly, there are three new match overrides that players can activate on the island: the Big Head override, which makes everyone's head huge; the Prop Hunt override, which turns players into a prop if they crouch and stand still; and the Action Hero override, which allows players to enter hangtime when aiming down sights in midair.

Batman event takes over Lego Fortnite Odyssey

This update isn't exclusive to the Battle Royale game mode. Fortnite OG has a brand-new Battle Pass based on Chapter 1 Season X, and Lego Fortnite Odyssey fans got a ton of Lego Batman content.

The journal has been updated with new missions to help the Dark Knight track stolen parts of Gotham City that have been hidden on the Lego Fortnite Odyssey island. To do this, players have a collection of bat-gear at their disposal, including the Batmobile, which should make the task a lot easier. Players must visit Gotham City locations, which can be found by following the Bat Signal, and take out henchmen to help Batman.

This event will last until Oct. 15, and at the end, players will have the opportunity to recruit Lego Batman as a villager. Unfortunately, this timing means that the next Lego Fortnite Pass will not be Batman-themed, as the current pass received an extension until Oct. 31. On the bright side, the Batman Caped Crusader pack is scheduled to return Sept. 17, giving players the opportunity to get thematic cosmetics for the event.
