Everardo Gout (Days of Grace, The Chosen One, The Forever Purge) has signed on to direct action thriller Clementine, a co-production between Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios and Yeardley Smith and Ben Cornwell’s U.S. independent production company Paperclip Ltd.

Gout will direct from the 2022 Black List script by David L. Williams, with Paperclip’s Jordan Foley, Nick Smith and Ben Cornwell and AGC’s Ford producing. Paperclip’s Smith, AGC’s Lorelle Lynch and Gout will executive produce. AGC Studios will fully finance the film and AGC International will handle worldwide sales. Casting is underway for an early 2025 start.

Set in real time, Clementine is a young mother in Miami who barely escapes a pawn shop shootout and goes on the run from her violent ex-husband, a terrifying mob boss, and a relentless hitwoman, all while protecting her young diabetic daughter.

“As a thriller, Clementine has the real-time propulsion of a contemporary Run Lola Run, fueled by the visceral maternal energy of a Kidnap or The Mother,” said Ford. “Everardo is the perfect director to bring the requisite authenticity and adrenaline to the film.”

“We were completely captivated the first time we read David’s script,” said Paperclip producers Foley, Smith and Cornwell. “Clementine is a heart-pounding thriller with so much heart and humanity at its core. David’s script is a perfect match for Everardo, an incredibly gifted filmmaker, masterful at authentically capturing vivid and complex worlds. And we couldn’t ask for better partners than Stuart Ford and the amazing team at AGC Studios, who are truly among the best in the business.”

Paperclip recent releases include the Adam Rehmeier-directed summer comedy Snack Shack, released theatrically by Paramount/Republic, and the John Hyams’ thriller Alone.

Gout, an award-winning Mexican writer, producer and director, started on the set of numerous projects including Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, where he was second assistant director. Gout is showrunner and director of Netflix’s American Jesus (The Chosen One) and recently produced Get Millie Black based on the Marlon James novel for Channel 4 and HBO. In partnership with Imagine Entertainment, he is the director and executive producer of Mars.

In 2010, Everardo wrote and directed his first feature film, Days of Grace, which premiered in Cannes to rave reviews.

Other credits include series Kaleidoscope (Netflix), Snowpiercer (TNT), Luke Cage (Marvel), Banshee (Cinemax), Joe Picket (Paramount+) and The Terror (AMC).

Gout is repped by CAA and the Nord Group. David L. Williams is repped by Verve Talent & Literary Agency, Expectation Management and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. The deal was negotiated by EVP of Legal & Business Affairs Anant Tamirisa on behalf of AGC and by Nicholas Marell on behalf of Paperclip Ltd.
