Footy star Billy Brownless reveals how he reconnected with adult son Oscar while starring on new season of The Amazing Race Australia - following split from ex-wife Nicky

Billy Brownless has shared how he and his adult son reconnected while filming the upcoming season of The Amazing Race Australia.

The Geelong great, 57, will be joined by Oscar, 24, the pair travelling the world together to compete on the reality series. 

'You live together when you are younger, then he moved out with his mates and he lived with his mates for a while and then all of a sudden we are back together, so it was interesting,' Brownless told the Herald Sun. 

'We flew together everywhere, we ate together everywhere, we drank together everywhere and because it is a budget experience, we had the same room' the footy legend continued.

'Sometimes there was a double bed and a single bed, sometimes there were two single beds, and a couple of times there was only one double bed so we had to share that.' 

Oscar followed in his father's footsteps earlier this year, joining the Geelong Amateur footy team after playing with South Adelaide in 2022. 

Billy shares Oscar with his ex-wife, Nicky Brownless. The former couple also two daughters, Lucy and Ruby, and another son, Max. 

Nicky became engaged to AFL star Garry Lyon last year. 

The good news came seven years after their relationship began in scandalous circumstances. 

The former Melbourne captain, 56, controversially went public with Nicky, the ex-wife of his close friend and former AFL Footy Show co-host Billy, in 2016.

Garry blindsided his best mate by starting a relationship with his wife of 18 years, 54, just 12 months after they separated.

The pair have moved on from that dark past with Nicky revealing that the engagement was a truly blissful moment.

'We'd planned to go and we did (have so much to celebrate). We're really happy,' she told the Herald Sun of their trip to New York after Gary proposed. 

After years of intense scrutiny, Gary got down on one knee and proposed to Nicky during a recent trip to the Mornington Peninsula and presented her with a giant diamond ring. 

A month after their scandalous relationship made headlines, Geelong legend Billy revealed how the affair had impacted his family, saying 'a good mate wouldn't do that'.

He also sensationally confessed that Garry and Nicky's secret relationship could have been going on for years.

'I couldn't believe it. I found out three or four months ago. I asked Garry and Nicky earlier on what is going on and they said they were just good friends. 

'That's what hurts the most,' he said on The AFL Footy Show at the time.

Earlier this year, Billy had a new woman on his arm, but the footy legend insists she's just a 'friend'. 

He stepped out at the Australian Open in Melbourne with glamorous mother-of-four Lizzie on his arm. 

Billy told the Herald Sun, 'She's a friend that loves tennis'. 

Lizzie explained that she and Billy were pals several years ago and 'recently rekindled a friendship'.
