Fire Country Season 3, Episode 4 Sets Up 1 Underrated Character's Time In The Spotlight At Last

6 days ago 3

Many Fire Country characters have had their storylines be at the drama’s center, but Fire Country season 3 showed an underrated character earning the spotlight at last. It’s indisputable that Bode had always been Fire Country’s main character, but the firefighting drama progressively showed more of other Edgewater residents’ storylines, not letting him be the sole focus of seasons 1 and 2. While Fire Country often expanded to include the stories of its inmate firefighters, focusing on Freddy’s in season 1 and Cole’s in season 2, it was less likely for regular firefighters to become the center of attention.

However, Fire Country season 3 having Bode outside Three Rock makes it easier for other characters to be in the spotlight. Indeed, Bode’s imprisonment often meant Fire Country’s protagonist was rarely physically in the same place as his loved ones, making his family’s storylines more difficult to follow consistently as they would happen away from Bode. Bode’s sole interest in the Cal Fire training instead makes it easier for others to be the spotlight, and this couldn’t be more evident with the focus on Eve’s strained relationship with her family and her new proposal for an Edgewater fire education program.

Fire Country Season 3 Finally Put Eve At The Center Of The Story

Eve's Role At Three Rock & Her FireEducated Program All Point To A Focus On Her

Fire Country season 2 having Eve take Manny’s place as Three Rock’s captain already put her in a more prominent role, as she had big shoes to fill, especially given how much the inmate firefighters admired Manny. Eve eventually found her place at Three Rock, coming to care for the inmates and being accepted as captain, refusing to be Luke’s puppet when he asked her to leave Three Rock in exchange for career progression. Putting the inmates first let Eve find her purpose within Cal Fire more than being at Station 42, and this became clearer with her FireEducated program.

Learning about Eve turning her back on ranching to become a firefighter makes her more interesting and a Fire Country protagonist in her own right.

Dealing with Renkin pushing back against her crew in Fire Country season 3 finally showed more about what drives Eve. FireEducated was Eve’s perfect plan to make Edgewater safer, putting the onus on Renkin’s neighbors to keep her in check without letting Three Rock or Cal Fire bear the brunt. However, the Renkin storyline also deepened the audiences’ knowledge of Eve’s past, transforming her into more than just Jake and Bode’s lifelong friend. Learning about Eve turning her back on ranching to become a firefighter makes her more interesting and a Fire Country protagonist in her own right.

Eve's Family Problems Can Finally Showcase Her Best Qualities In Fire Country

Fire Country Seasons 1 & 2 Often Relegated Eve To A Supporting Character

Jules Latimer as Eve Edwards in Fire Country season 3, episode 2

While Bode and Jake always had their major problems Eve helped them with, little put her at the center of Fire Country season 1’s story. Indeed, only her romantic relationships with Aydan and Mel helped revealing more about Eve, as every other personal interaction she had showed how she followed the rules at Station 42 and was a supportive friend to Jake and Bode. Fire Country season 2 expanding Eve and Gabriela’s friendship already showed a more emphatic side of Eve, but it still never put Eve and her problems at the center.

Renkin playing with Eve’s doubts that she may be seen as a disappointment by her family after she hadn’t talked with them in six years can showcase the qualities Eve already proved had when helping Bode in Fire Country season 2, but this time with a storyline that puts her at the center. Eve’s vulnerability in Fire Country season 3, episode 4 finally establishes her isolation from the Edwards as a major problem she will need to face, setting it up as Eve’s key storyline that can also impact Cal Fire in Fire Country season 3.
