A mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 is currently in development, and we now have our first look at the MMO’s upcoming port.
The footage, first uploaded by a verified account for the game to Chinese video sharing site Bilibili, features brief gameplay snippets of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile’s nine initial jobs — Warrior, Paladin, Bard, Black Mage, Summoner, Monk, Dragoon, Scholar, and White Mage — performing some basic actions in combat against random mobs. While the adventurers are obviously low level, at least compared to the characters folks use in Final Fantasy 14 these days, the user interface looks about as clean and uncluttered as you’re going to get with a touchscreen-based game. Eagle-eyed players may even spot a few unique animations.
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is being developed by LightSpeed Studios, a subsidiary of Chinese conglomerate Tencent Holdings previously known for its work on PUBG Mobile. Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki Yoshida introduced the game in Nov. 2024, explaining the mobile version will be optimized for the more casual play traditional to the platform.
“While we had a strong desire to develop a mobile version, we almost gave up due to the perceived difficulty,” Yoshida said. “We provided challenging feedback to the Final Fantasy 14 Mobile dev team. The developers always responded sincerely. This dedication became the deciding factor in moving forward with the mobile version. Although the journey was quite difficult, they succeed in creating an outstanding mobile version.”
Final Fantasy 14 Mobile doesn’t have a release date but is expected to launch in China first before going global.
