A horror comedy film which has been branded 'unreleasable' is finally set to hit the cinemas and people have been left stunned.

Despite failing to find a distributor after it was completed in 2023, the rights to show the shocking movie, a remake of a 1984 film of the same name, have now been acquired by American company Cineverse.

The Toxic Avenger astonished critics with its graphic content and gory scenes but still gained an impressive rating of 92 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

It saw Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage turn in a remarkable performance as Winston, a janitor with a terminal illness, who accidentally fell into a tub of toxic waste causing severe deformities.

He then decided to take out his anger on those who had done him wrong, becoming a unique superhero in the process.

The movie also starred Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood and Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige in key roles.

Upon the announcement of its impending release after two years in the dark, film fans took to social media to voice their excitement at finally getting the change to see The Toxic Avenger.

One X user said: 'Modern day The Toxic Avenger remake is gonna go crazy actually.'

Another added: 'Get ready for a monstrous revival! The Toxic Avenger reboot hits theaters this year with Peter Dinklage leading an epic, comedic battle against wrongdoing!'

A third viewer posted: 'Can we get new trailer? For the toxic avenger please I can't no longer.'

Another said: 'I'm so happy we are finally getting The Toxic Avenger reboot theatrical release in 2025 thanks to Cineverse! I've been wanting to see this film for a minute.. What a cast!'

While horror fans did not get the chance to see the film upon its initial release, critics who got the opportunity to view it lauded it with rave reviews.

One wrote: 'Completely discarding an expectation for a more sanitised take on the character, Blair's new vision for The Toxic Avenger is an unhinged off-color extravaganza just about guaranteed to divide audiences.'

Another impressed reviewer added: 'This cast seems to be having a blast in their roles, and its entertaining assault of absurd vulgarity and buckets of ooey, gooey, and chunky amounts of blood is hysterical ecstasy.

'The Toxic Avenger is undoubtedly ridiculous and laugh-out-loud funny.'

One said: 'No one can accuse The Toxic Avenger of being a watered down remake. It has all the gore and immature comedy that made the original beloved, which is exactly what the post-Marvel superhero genre needs right now.'

And a fourth posted: 'Macon Blair's reimagining of The Toxic Avenger brings all the action, gore, and laughs horror fans will want and expect, but with an unexpected emotional core at the gooey center.'

The Toxic Avenger was the opening film of the Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2023 and had its international debut at the 56th Sitges Film Festival three weeks later.
