EXCLUSIVE: Media Res has struck a first-look distribution deal with Fifth Season and set Swedish series Summer of 1985 as their debut project. First trailer for the Stranger Things-esque series is below.

Fifth Season, which already sells Media Res’ Pachinko, Scenes from a Marriage and The Morning Show, will have first refusal on distributing Media Res’ scripted projects.

First out the gate for the deal is Summer of 1985 from The Bridge co-creator Björn Stein. The show for Swedish network SVT is based on Let The Right One In author John Ajvide Lindqvist‘s latest novel and centers on a group of friends preparing for an epic summer together in the Stockholm archipelago. The calm shatters when a local boy is found drowned near the mythical island of Svärtan. What seems like an accident becomes a murder investigation, exposing fractures within the tight-knit community. The show stars Linus Rogsgård, Ture Nerman, Nelly Anderbro, Stina Kristiansen, Josefin Neldén (The Restaurant Vår tid är nu), Sanna Sundqvist (TORE), and Rolf Lassgård (The Lassgård).

Deadline revealed Summer of 1985 a year ago, at which point Anna-Klara Carlsten joined to run Nordics for Lars Blomgren’s Media Res international division. Media Res international, which is based out of Sweden, is also adapting The Brothers Lioneheart for Apple, with Thomas Vinterberg directing.

Jennifer Ebell, Fifth Season’s EVP Television Distribution, said Media Res “shares our ambition to bring distinctive, globally resonant storytelling to audiences worldwide, making this a natural partnership.” She called Summer of 1985, “a psychological coming-of-age thriller built for multi-generational viewing.”

Blomgren called Fifth Season “the perfect partner to drive forward our continued ambition to bring IP and talent-led projects from all around the world to global audiences, and we look forward to working together to introduce the world to Summer of 1985 and to exploring future opportunities together.”
