Fear Not, Daredevil Ultraviolence Fans: Born Again Won’t Be Toning It Down for Disney+

When you hear “Disney,” you definitely don’t think “gritty street brawls” or “brutal hallway fights”—two things that definitely come to mind along with Daredevil. With the Charlie Cox-starring Marvel series moving from Netflix to Disney+ for its Daredevil: Born Again revival, fans might have some concerns that some of the sharp edges might be filed down. However, the first trailer certainly suggested otherwise—and now the showrunner is confirming it.

Speaking to Empire, Dario Scardapane (who knows a thing or two about Marvel violence, having worked on Netflix’s The Punisher) teased that “The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show. I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”

A lot of that violence is going to stem, unsurprisingly, from the pent-up tension between Cox’s Matt Murdoch, aka Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. “This dynamic [in Born Again] is way more tense,” Scardapane said. “There’s one scene between them in the first episode that lays it all out. Then we spend the next eight episodes throwing rocks at it.”

D’Onofrio agreed that Born Again will up the ante in every way over the previous Netflix series: “We’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness.”

Whatever that means, we can’t wait to see—and it won’t be long now. Daredevil: Born Again arrives March 4 on Disney+.
