‘American Idol’ Season 24 Winner Revealed
American Idol has once again scored a ticket to Hollywood.
ABC has renewed the long-running reality TV singing competition for season 25, the network confirmed July 29. The search for America's next music superstar will premiere next year.
However, ABC has yet to confirm if judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, as well as host Ryan Seacrest, are returning for another season.
Auditions for the new season will kick off Aug. 25 with the return of Idol Across America, the virtual nationwide search that allows hopefuls from all 50 states to showcase their talents for Idol producers from anywhere in the country.
Eligible contenders will also be allowed to audition during open-call dates through Sept. 28. (See the full list of cities and dates here.)
AI's 24th season wrapped up this past May with Seacrest announcing Hannah Harper as the latest champion. The country singer, who hails from Missouri, beat out finalists Jordan McCullough and Keyla Richardson for the crown.
Prior to the May 11 finale, Underwood—winner of Idol's fourth season in 2005—reflected on the iconic show's decades-long legacy.
"American Idol is the ultimate real-life Cinderella story," the "Before He Cheats" singer, who joined the judges' panel season 23, told Good Morning America in an interview published May 8. "I learned so much on the show that set me up for everything that would follow."
Seacrest—who has hosted every season since the series' 2002 debut—echoed, "There's history, heritage in the show, and it's pivoted with the times. And I think that's the beauty of the history and the legend that is American Idol."

For Underwood, returning to Idol as a judge meant getting the opportunity to mentor those following in her very same footsteps.
“Sometimes I get in trouble from people like, ‘How dare she say that it wasn't perfect?’” she said on SiriusXM’s The Highway last year in response to criticism of her tough love. “And I'm like, I just want everybody to learn and that's part of it. And nobody wants to just hear that they're amazing all the time.”
Still, the 43-year-old's feedback comes from a place of love.
“We just want everybody to be able to grow and get better,” Underwood—who shares kids Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7, with husband Mike Fisher—added, “and be the most awesome version of themselves that they could be.”
