Fallout is in a really sweet spot as a franchise right now, with fans looking for any way to get involved after the very successful second season of the Prime Video adaptation. Unfortunately, a new main series game is almost certainly years away, so we have to be a little bit more creative to get our post-apocalyptic good times going.

Fallout 4 is still a great option to return to, particularly with all of the great mods out there, but we could understand if you're looking for something a bit more varied after all this time. Fallout 76 continues to roll out meaningful updates and the MMO boasts a very healthy player base, making it one of the best places to get involved with Fallout in 2026.

If neither of those take your fancy, there's a much more analogue set of releases on the way that really could be one of the most exciting arrivals for the franchise all year.

↻ RETAKE ASSESSMENT

As first reported by Gaming Trend, tabletop publisher Modiphius Entertainment has confirmed a bunch of new information and details about the upcoming release of more sets for its officially licensed, campaign-oriented miniatures game, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare.

The game originally debuted back in 2018, and it was already an engrossing tabletop experience back then, but the Second Edition is getting two new core sets, and a bunch of other changes designed to bring the entire game forward into the modern day.

Specifically, the Into the Wasteland Solo Starter Set and Warband Starter Set will be releasing in Q3 and Q4 of 2026, respectively, giving players an easy way to get into the game for the first time.

As the name suggests, both facilitate solo play, though it can, of course, still be played in a group if that's what you're looking for. Given how difficult it can be to get a good group together with all of those adult commitments that are flying around, they've designed the game so you can play a little, and return to it with ease whenever you wish.

Who Needs Fallout 5, Right?

A dweller in power armor with Dogmeat Modiphius Entertainment

We're not getting Fallout 5 any time soon, but given how extensive these sets are, we really don't need it just yet. The Wasteland Solo Starter Set includes everything from the core rulebooks to a full sprue of Vault Dweller figures, while the Warband set brings an additional 22 PVC miniatures, including everything from Super Mutants to a Mr Handy.

Even better than that, there are official rules for a ton of different ways to play, meaning you can step into the enormous shoes of a Super Mutant, a Brotherhood of Steel Aspirant or even a Raider, allowing you to live out your maddest Fallout fantasies. It may well be the best way to engross yourself in the franchise to date.
