Return to the setting of Fallout 4 with a brand-new upcoming game that brings back the beloved setting—as well as some familiar faces. It's been over a decade since Fallout 4 was released, and many fans are eagerly awaiting the followup. Speculation about the development status and setting of Fallout 5 abound, as the franchise prepares to leave behind its previous location.
It seems Bethesda isn't quite ready to move on from the post-apocalyptic Boston location of the fourth mainline Fallout title. The studio has announced an upcoming game in collaboration with Modiphius, which will bring players back to Boston for another showdown between the series' main factions.
The new title is called Fallout: Factions and is a physical miniatures skirmish game from the UK-based tabletop RPG, miniatures, and board game publisher, Modiphius. The game throws players back into the heart of the Commonwealth as three powers vie for control of the city.
Defend the streets as a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, the Institute, the Minutemen, or the Railroad. Grow and evolve through battle and skirmishes, using a combination of miniatures and 3D set pieces. With Fallout: Factions you can add a tactile element to the power struggle depicted Fallout 4.
The Starter Set for Fallout: Factions is available for preorder on the Modiphius website for $135. At the time of this writing, the preorder is completely sold out, but you can join the waitlist to be notified when it comes back in stock.
The game is scheduled to launch in late July, and will come with everything you need to get started with the tabletop game, including a 106-page rulebook, 12 unpainted Institute miniatures, eight unpainted Brotherhood of Steel miniatures, four sheets of terrain, a double-sided battle map, 100 tokens, 12 dice, and much more.
Players will also receive a miniature of a Wasteland Legend: Robert MacCready, former mayor of Little Lamplight and current mercenary and potential companion.
With all the materials in the Battle for Boston Starter Set from Fallout: Factions, you'll be able to set up two full crews and embark on a battle against a friend. Will the brutish Brotherhood of Steel win out against the mysterious and shadowy Institute?
It might be a while before Fallout is officially revealed, and even longer before it's released. In the meantime, Bethesda continues to bring players new and old ways to remember the Wasteland, lilke reviving the popular 2020 Nuka Girl statue.
Fallout: Factions might not be the Fallout video game everyone's waiting for, but it's a neat way to continue playing with the franchise until the next game arrives.
