Following the news that Obsidian Entertainment has reportedly canceled working on an Avowed sequel and two other unannounced projects in order to begin work on a brand-new Fallout title, it is an exciting time for fans of the beloved post-apocalyptic RPG franchise. Not only that, but with the project headed by Josh Sawyer, who served as the lead designer and project director to Fallout: New Vegas, we can only imagine what this will mean, considering this is regarded as the best entry in the Fallout series.
Whilst we wait for confirmation on this exciting news, there is another project for Fallout fans to look forward to. Despite not being officially confirmed by Bethesda itself, rumors have been circulating about a potential Fallout 3 Remake for many years now.
Bethesda EntertainmentFirst released back in 2008 and marking the first Fallout title to be developed and published by Bethesda, Fallout 3 is widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time. It may not be on the same scale as New Vegas, but it is definitely up there, and with the RPG approaching its 20th anniversary, it makes sense that a remake would be on the cards.
Well, according to Jeff Gerstmann, on the latest episode of the Jeff Gerstmann Show, he shared some interesting information regarding the Fallout 3 Remake and admits that although he does not know if it will actually come to fruition, he has actually seen some footage.
“Someone else has put in quite a lot of work into a remake that has yet to officially materialize,” Gerstmann said. “I don’t even know if that game is—I assume that that is still happening, but maybe it is dead. Who can say?” Before adding, “I have seen footage of a Fallout 3 remake, so someone somewhere made something.”
Gerstmann did not go into detail about what he saw during this apparent footage, but it is at least reassuring to know that some work has been done on this mysterious Fallout 3 Remake. However, with no direct confirmation of its existence from Bethesda itself, we have no idea what this means for the future. That is if the project is even being headed by Bethesda.
It was, once again, Gerstmann who put this idea into fans' heads when he said, "[Bethesda] will probably not do the remakes. I think those have been outsourced to other [studios]; like the Fallout 3 thing, I think has been outsourced to an external studio.”
So, at the time of writing, there is currently no official news of a remake for Fallout 3, but with multiple rumors and insider leaks hinting at its existence in at least some capacity, we can only hope that it is being worked on behind the scenes ahead of its 20th anniversary.
