He enjoys soulslikes, character-driven RPGs, and third-person shooters plucked straight out of the Xbox 360 era. He also likes to flex his non-video game nerdy knowledge sometimes, whether that's explaining who's who in the new Wolverine game or recommending a comic book series about a sentient sword.

Every game needs a baguette outfit

Sandfall Interactive's award-winning Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took the gaming world by storm last year as players enjoyed the role-playing game's serious themes and its goofy bits, like the "baguette" outfits. Equip those, and the downtrodden expeditioners will suddenly look as silly as can be with red berets, black-and-white-striped shirts, and baguettes tied to their backs.

In just a few weeks, those beloved baguette outfits will unofficially make their way into a new game from a different French studio as a way of paying homage to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

In December's Rayman Legends Retold, Rayman and Barbara will get their own baguette outfits. While the news release doesn't explicitly state they're inspired by Expedition 33, it does say the outfits "offer a playful nod to a fellow game created in Montpellier." So, you know. Expedition 33. "Subtly, [the outfits] honor a title that holds a special place in the hearts of the development team," the news release states, making me think Ubisoft and I have different definitions of the word "subtly."

The original Rayman Legends came out in 2013, so it's not quite as old as other games that are getting remakes this year. Ubisoft decided to remake Rayman's most recent game as a way to introduce the franchise to a new audience because "it's the richest version of the world, the widest set of characters," brand manager Loïc Gounon told Polygon.

From what we've played so far, Ubisoft is succeeding. "Rayman Legends Retold is an imaginative platformer offering vibrant worlds, engaging platforming sequences, and endearing personality that oozes from every beautiful crack in its wacky world," Polygon's Jason Venter wrote in his preview of the upcoming game.

Rayman Legends Retold will be released on Dec. 3 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The baguette outfits will be available at launch.
