Marvel's Wolverine feels like it's been a long time coming. Insomniac Games and Marvel Games had been working on the Earth-1048 universe, and it was time for another character to step up to the plate. Marvel fans couldn't be happier. While Spider-Man is known as a friendly neighborhood hero, Wolverine isn't so cut and dried.
As a bona fide loner and brutal fighter, the game is going to feel completely different from top to bottom. In classic Insomniac fashion, there are a lot of moving parts this time around, including a full score. We have an exclusive track to share from composer David Fleming, and it already does a great job of conveying the tone the game is going for.
The song here is called "Logan," and you can listen to it below. It definitely elicits the feeling of an epic feature film, with motifs of heroism and conflict. The sharpness of the instruments really adds to the composition, and suits Wolverine as a character.
As composer David Fleming notes, creating music for Marvel's Wolverine was an interesting process:
"It only seemed right that I would start creating the music for Marvel’s Wolverine in the wilderness, or the closest thing I could find - a barn in the California desert packed with instruments more typical of a western than of a superhero story. Wolverine is, of course, a Super Hero - one of the most beloved - but it's what makes him unique within that pantheon that resonates with me and so many. He feels like a man out of time - his archetype more in step with gunslingers of the western frontier or the wandering ronin of feudal Japan. Most crucially - there is a conflict at his core. Logan is at once a feral, animalistic loner while also a man of deep emotion, with a sense of honor as unbending as his metallic skeleton. His reclusive nature belies a heart in search of belonging, and of its own purpose. I was thrilled to get the chance to explore Logan's complexity through music, and to help shape this character I've loved since reading X-Men & Wolverine comics as a kid."
Fleming also expands on how tough it was to match the tone of the other major cast members in Marvel's Wolverine:
"Of course, the Marvel universe is full of colorful characters, and it was an insane and exciting challenge to color the score in a similar way - brutally distorted visceral-rock for Sabretooth, undulating harp arpeggios and guitars for Jean Grey. In truth, I much prefer talking about the characters than the sound of the music itself. If "symphonic techno-western" seems like nonsense, it's because it is and should never be spoken of again. The score simply strives to be as exciting and multifaceted as the heroes and villains of this incredible story, and it was an absolute pleasure to go on that journey with my friends at Insomniac, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel Games."
Marcus Smith, Creative Director, Insomniac Games on Marvel’s Wolverine, expands on the scope of the music and his team’s work with the composer: "David Fleming’s score perfectly personifies the globe- hopping adventure of Marvel’s Wolverine. Each character motif is tailor-made to evoke the true essence of these iconic Marvel characters and elevate the action and stakes of the game. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to the soundtrack in its entirety separated from the game (as listeners to the score we’re releasing now will). It is soaring and heartbreaking and driving and elevating and punctuating and… so damn good! I cannot offer enough kudos to David for creating this monumental score."
The soundtrack for Marvel’s Wolverine will release on August 28, 2026. Marvel's Wolverine is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. So far, it's looking (and sounding) just how it should.
