Erling Haaland has now scored 57 goals in 58 UEFA Champions League appearances, a stat line that reads less like a football career and more like a particularly aggressive save file in FIFA.
The Manchester City striker has spent the better part of his career turning Champions League defenses into training cone exercises. His near-perfect goal-per-game ratio sits at roughly 0.98, a number that makes Cristiano Ronaldo’s and Lionel Messi’s already legendary records look almost pedestrian by comparison.
A career built on broken records
Haaland’s Champions League journey began at Red Bull Salzburg, where he announced himself to the world with 8 goals in just 6 appearances. His move to Borussia Dortmund only accelerated the trend. He bagged 15 goals in 13 matches for the German club.
Then came Manchester City. He has now scored 34 goals in 39 appearances for City in the competition, including the goals that helped deliver the club’s first-ever Champions League title.
Haaland holds the record for the fastest player to reach 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 Champions League goals. At 26 years old, Haaland has 57 goals and the trajectory to challenge the record while still in his prime years. UEFA’s expanded tournament structure means more matches per season, which could either accelerate Haaland’s path to the record or increase the physical toll on his body.
