Jeff Dodge (he/him), a published author and graduate of Western Washington University, has been a TV news editor for many years and has had the chance to interview multiple reality show stars, including Randy Jackson, Nick Cannon, Heidi Klum, Mel B and John Cena. Fun Fact: he’s been to every single Idol Live! Tour.

Avatar: The Last Airbender doesn't return until 2027, but Netflix is already teasing an epic battle with Fire Lord Ozai.

Daniel Dae Kim, best known from Lost and the Hawaii Five-0 reboot, plays Ozai in Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which debuted in 2024 and released its second season this June. There's one final season on the horizon that has already been filmed. Ozai leads the Fire Nation, with the ultimate goal of complete domination.

There will be a major showdown in Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3 as the series comes to an end, and Netflix has just teased an epic battle featuring Ozai.

A brand-new image shows Kim's Ozai with a determined and angry look on his face as he raises his left hand, presumably to generate fire, and clenches his right hand into a fist. Check out the first-look image below:

Continuing its adaptation of the beloved animated Nickelodeon series of the same name, Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 ended with a major setback for Aang after being struck by Azula's lightning.

He was in the Avatar State while Azula made her shocking move, which left fans with a shocking cliffhanger over Aang's fate. Elsewhere, Zuko returns to Azula and Ozai, once again putting himself in alignment with the powerful Fire Nation ahead of the series' conclusion.

When Netflix releases Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3 next year, Aang will be forced to confront various challenges stemming from his confrontation with Azula, all while still moving forward into the Fire Nation and working to defeat Ozai.

Aside from Kim, the series also stars Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. Joining them for the final season are Jon Jon Briones, Tantoo Cardinal, Terry Chen, Dolly De Leon, Lily Gao, Madison Hu and Dichen Lachman.

The live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender currently has an average critic score of 66% and an audience score of 60%, compared to a perfect 100% from critics and 98% from audiences for the original animated series. The show has also earned Emmy nominations in sound editing and visual effects categories.

Netflix may be concluding its live-action adaptation, but the Avatar franchise is continuing on in animated form.

This summer, Paramount+ released the feature-length film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender and will follow that up with the series Avatar: Seven Havens, which premieres October 9 and takes place after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. At least one other project is in the works that hasn't been officially announced yet.

In the meantime, Avatar: The Last Airbender will return to Netflix for one last installment in 2027, with Fire Lord Ozai preparing for a battle the likes of which the realm hasn't seen before.
