Stage fright can have a weird effect on the body, but it wasn't this that left a nasty stain on Ellie Goulding's underwear one year as she made her way onto the stage at Coachella. A rogue wrap before she appeared to perform took its toll on her guts and resulted in a nasty bathroom disaster before she did her thing in front of the crowd.

Having a bad stomach is always a real risk at festivals. The combination of disgusting toilets, food truck libations and a severe lack of washing facilities often leads to touch-and-go situations. Goulding, shared her less-than-deal Coachella experience in an interview with Nylon.

For Goulding, though, her food poisoning came before she even landed at the festival grounds. She had been touring with Lorde in South America, and a wrap didn't agree with her. However, she was booked to play at Coachella, and being the professional she is, she didn't let her fans down.

I'd been performing in South America — with Lorde, actually — and I got food poisoning. I remember having dinner with Ella, and I had some kind of wrap and it all went wrong.

But despite the risk, Goulding went ahead with the show anyway and flew to Coachella to attend the festivities. Suffering from the bad wrap, Goulding still chose to go on stage. Thankfully, backstage toilets are typically significantly more luxurious than those for the rest of us. However, she hadn't exactly made the best of clothing choices.

I had food poisoning. I was sh***ing my pants, and I still went. I had these leather shorts that had a zip up the back and front, and I thought, these are the worst thing for my situation right now.

Despite her bad stomach and having previously ruined her zip-up pants, she put on a good show, and no one was any the wiser that she was possibly seconds away from disaster throughout her performance.

That's not the only inconvenience that can make being a performer physically taxing. In the full interview with Nylon, Goulding highlights just how much strain she has put on her body over the years. Constant moving from city to city, energetic performances under hot spotlights, and vocal strain can wear a person down.

There have even been appearances she has had to turn down due to her health. But alas, food poisoning and the risk of making an on-stage mess didn't stop Ellie Goulding from putting on a show at Coachella. She risked it all, and thankfully got away with it.
