Ellen DeGeneres 'buys $27M mansion' in Montecito after 'missing' US... a year after moving to England to get away from Donald Trump

1 hour ago 3

Ellen DeGeneres has snapped up a new mansion in Montecito near Santa Barbara, California, People reported on Tuesday.

Realtor.com also claimed the same thing adding the home was bought from movie producer Brian Grazer and the purchase was made off market, closing in November for $27.4 million.

But that does not mean that DeGeneres is completely ditching England, where she and her 53-year-old wife Portia de Rossi moved to in November 2024.

The 68-year-old comedienne and de Rossi will be spending only part of their time in the Southern California community, People added.

'She's not moving back to the U.S. but will continue to split her time between both the U.K. and Montecito,' a source told the site.

Montecito is where her friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston own homes. And it is where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reside.

Daily Mail has reached out to the star's representative for comment.

People added that the Hollywood veteran has been 'missing' California as it has been over a year since the former talk show host moved to England for a better life.

She was reportedly so unhappy that Donald Trump had won a second term as President of the United States that she wanted to leave the country.

It was also noted by a People source that DeGeneres has not been seen in her English neighborhood for many months and locals believed she had moved out.

And in December, the TV personality and de Rossi were spied in Santa Barbara. That same month, DeGeneres shared a post from California on her Instagram page.

A real estate source also shared with the site that the couple have been 'missing the California weather and horse scene' since moving to the bucolic Cotswolds in 2024.

The insider also shared: 'Portia loves polo and her horses.'

The Cotswolds is a rural area of south central England covering parts of six counties, notably Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

Its rolling hills and grassland harbor thatched medieval villages, churches and stately homes.

When DeGeneres and de Rossi first moved to England over a year ago they snapped up a farmhouse for around $18 million, but it did not fit their needs, The Wall Street Journal reported, so they moved out.

They then purchased another home in the area that had floor-to-ceiling windows and was more modern.

It also more adequately housed the Arrested Development actress' horses and provided plenty of land for them to graze on.

In July it was reported that DeGeneres put that first English farmhouse up for sale for a staggering $30.5 million.

But Realtor.com reported in late January that the house has been taken off the market.

It was unclear what prompted the disappearance of the property's listing or whether DeGeneres had managed to secure a buyer for the dwelling, the site added.

This comes after DeGeneres expressed her support for anti-ICE protesters in Minneapolis.

The star took to Instagram to describe her sadness at what's happening in 'the happiest city in America' following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers earlier this month.

Referring to her 2024 Netflix special Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, Ellen said in a video clip: 'Hey everybody, I just wanted to say, I am so sorry for what is happening in Minneapolis and our country, really, but specifically Minneapolis right now because that's where I shot my last stand-up special and everybody there couldn't have been more lovely.

'I shot it there because they say it's the happiest city in America. And I found that to be true.

'So my thoughts and my prayers are going out to everyone, and I'm proud of everyone who's protesting peacefully, and I am sorry for anyone who has been hurt just for protesting, for doing what you should be doing.'

DeGeneres' talk show came to an end after 19 years in 2022.

INSIDE ELLEN AND PORTIA'S ENGLAND MANSION

In October, DeGeneres opened the doors to her very modern and massive mansion in England after fleeing the US in 2024.

The former talk show host, who was canceled in 2020 after numerous 'toxic workplace' claims came to light, showed off her Cotswolds home while filming her dogs Sport and Kid chasing each other.

The comedienne shares the stunning dwelling with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Ally McBeal fame.

There is an open floor plan as the kitchen, dining room and living room are one. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a generous view of the lush green backyard on an overcast day.

The overall color palette inside the house - which has been estimated to cost around $30 million - was ivory and a matte mocha latte beige.

The decor is understated with a tiled dining room table and eight leather chairs; a glass coffee table; and lounge chair that sit on muted gray and ecru rugs.

Also spied are piles of hardback books on Africa, interior design and art work, as well as a horse sculpture.

'They’ve finally figured it out. We’ve all been sad since losing Augie,' DeGeneres wrote in the caption, referring to their rescue dog who died in May.

'Sport has brought so much joy into the house and it makes us so happy to see Kid play again, even though he has a very unique style of play.'

There is plenty of land to roam on.

And animals are everywhere: There are horse stalls, a chicken coop and wandering sheep that help cut the grass.

The video comes a year after DeGeneres and de Rossi left the US and relocated to rural England in the fall of 2024.

A person close to the former Ellen Show host claimed that she and de Rossi were primarily skipping town in response to the 2024 presidential election, which saw Donald Trump win a second non-consecutive term.

The couple bought a home on 43 acres in the Cotswolds, a rural portion of Southwest England that is about 100 miles from London.

They fixed up the place, named Kitesbridge Farm, then sold it for $30 million after experiencing problems with flooding.

Then they bought a new, much more modern house. It is is perched on a hilltop on the edge of a village in Oxfordshire. The cost is estimated to be around $30 million for the new property.

'When we decided to live here full time, we knew that Portia couldn't live without her horses. We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them,' said DeGeneres recently.

The area is popular with celebrities looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of London.

They have plenty of celebrity neighbors. Among the stars with properties in the Cotswolds are David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley, Jeremy Clarkson and Damien Hirst, among many others.

The area is even home to royalty, as King Charles owns Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

Kate Winslet also had a mansion in the area at one point, though it's unclear if she still lives there, and Hugh Grant has been rumored for years to have a small hideaway in the Cotswolds.

In the fall of 2024, DeGeneres and de Rossi were spotted visiting Clarkson's pub in the Cotswolds.
