There's no question that Elden Ring is one of the most iconic Soulsborne games by developers at FromSoftware, setting a new precedent for what's possible in the genre with its massive open world and quintessentially challenging yet addictive combat. While there have been hundreds, if not thousands of attempts over the years to capture the same vibe as Elden Ring and other Soulsborne essentials, it isn't every day we see a game that combines soulslike gameplay with elements of Minecraft.

However, if you're a soulslike fan looking for something completely new and original to try out, there's a compelling new project in the works that features brick-style art design and MMO/souls gameplay in a Dark Souls and Elden Ring-inspired setting. It's a brand-new dark fantasy RPG listed on Steam that's set to launch in the coming months, and it will be completely free when it releases.

Dark Craft is a newly announced dark fantasy RPG from Take Top Entertainment that fans of Elden Ring and Minecraft will want to wishlist ASAP, featuring elements from both franchises that combine into what promises to be one of the most unique soulslike projects in years. It's a free-to-play MMORPG with block-art character and setting design that's "set in a grim dark-fantasy world, where a vast open world and a Souls-style combat system turn every encounter into a true challenge."

According to the official description, Dark Craft will feature discoverable secrets across an extensive open world map, promising "ruthless" monsters and multiplayer gameplay where players can become either "allies or enemies." Players have the option of exploring alone or with a group of friends, and "your path is defined by your choices and your ability to endure in a harsh world."

Dark Craft will also feature a unique "Game Masters" system, described as follows:

The world of Dark Craft lives independently ... but above all this operates a unique layer — a system controlled by our game masters, members of the team who can directly intervene in gameplay. They can command enemies and set up unexpected ambushes, appear in the form of world bosses, issue unique quests, or trigger events that will never happen again.

Further, Dark Craft will operate as a free-to-play experience, allowing all gamers to join raids for free, and letting players partake in individual character progression with upgradable equipment and unlockable content rewarded from surviving combat encounters. Overall, Dark Craft sounds like a truly unique and exciting soulslike experience, on paper at least, and while we still don't have a specific release date, players can wishlist the game on Steam now and follow along on its progress in the coming months.
