EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Holly Willoughby wins planning row for extension to £8m home

Holly Willoughby is celebrating after being given the go-ahead to transform her new mansion with a makeover featuring a gym and cinema room.

The Dancing On Ice presenter wanted to build an extension and link an outbuilding to the main part of her £8million, six-bedroom home, but had to revise her plans in order to overcome opposition from officials.

She bought the property with her husband, Dan Baldwin, paying for it all in cash without a mortgage, last July.

The couple, who have three children, wanted to get going immediately on design changes, but were initially thwarted when officials said the new designs were not in keeping with the home's 'heritage'.

It meant that plans to build a two-storey 'infill' to link the main house and a coach house had to be reduced to a one-storey addition.

Using pseudonyms and a specialist planning agent, the couple successfully reapplied and have been given the go-ahead for the changes to the home in the South East of England.

Planning details show the ground floor extension and 'infill', which connects the main house to the old coaching house, will make room for a gym, spare bedroom and cinema room.

It's a fresh start for Holly after moving following the unravelling of a plot to break into her old home and kidnap her.

Holly ended her 14-year stint on ITV's This Morning after Gavin Plumb was given three life sentences for planning to break into her home, then sedate, abduct and kill her and her husband.

Plumb, 37, was arrested in Harlow, Essex, trying to recruit an accomplice who turned out to be an undercover US policeman.

Dave's helping hand to pal Jerry

Sir Elton John has made an intriguing appointment. I hear he's hired Lucie Kitchener to run his charity and business empire Rocket Entertainment. 

Lucie, 57, just so happens to be the daughter of late Beatles producer Sir George Martin. She previously worked for King Charles's cousin, the Earl of Snowdon, at his furnishings business Linley.

Nicole Scherzinger's Sunset Boulevard role created with her in mind

Nicole Scherzinger won an Olivier last year for her role as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. But Sarah Brightman says the part was created with her in mind. 

The soprano, 64, who was married to Andrew Lloyd Webber when he started to compose the musical, says: 'He told me, 'Subconsciously, a lot of this was written on your voice'. He reiterated that recently.' 

New mission for former Bond girl 

Having been Daniel Craig's Bond girl during his 007 Casino Royale debut, Caterina Murino is now on a mission of her own – to rescue abandoned pets.

The actress, 47, has even set up a social media account for one of the moggies, called Ilithyia And Family. 'Welcome baby Selene… you were found in a box,' she says in one post on Instagram.

Caterina takes a more vengeful tone when talking about her rescue dogs: 'To you b*****ds who abandoned them, I hope you suffer the same fear they experienced multiplied by one million.'

Is there a chill in the air over Pearl's decorating?

Queen of vintage Pearl Lowe admits her domestic preferences are causing friction at home with her rock star husband, Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey.

The designer and erstwhile member of the hedonistic Primrose Hill set, who ditched London eight years ago for a Georgian house in Somerset, says the home 'gets very cold in the winter'. 

Pearl also admits the interiors are 'not to everyone's taste', adding: 'I like things that are thrown together and don't match.

'But my other half would love to be in a new-build with all new things and it be really warm. We battle with that. I'm winning but I'm not sure how long for.'

John Caudwell's Tesla breaks down
