The "Echoes of Silenced Bells" quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker is among the longer, harder, and profoundly horrifying ones in the early game. Not only is it difficult to cross the convent's courtyard and find a path to the library, but you must also make a few ethical decisions, explore creepy catacombs, and defeat a boss.
Whether you find the relic of St. Tyna or decide to learn the bell tower signals, here's how to complete "Echoes of Silenced Bells" in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

'Echoes of Silenced Bells' quest walkthrough in The Blood of Dawnwalker
The "Echoes of Silenced Bells" quest is automatically unlocked upon completing the prologue (the "Smoke and Ashes" quest), provided Anca is alive. During the night, always make sure your blood level is sufficiently high before speaking with Anca, or you risk accidentally killing her.
Meet up with Anca at the old inn (the Crossroads Inn) on the east side of the map. When you're done chatting, tell her you're ready to go to the convent, which takes one turn. As you progress, you'll need to do the following:
- Secure safe passage to the library by finding St. Tyna's relic or a book on bell tower signals
- Explore the catacombs with Anca
- Decide whether Anca should try to save the nuns
Below we explain the various ways to reach the convent's library and what happens when you make certain key choices in the "Echoes of Silenced Bells" quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
How to secure safe passage to the library in 'Echoes of Silenced Bells'
After you've entered the convent and escaped the first group of nuns, join Anca upstairs to investigate the convent. Be sure to interact with the leftmost point of interest as well as the two rightmost points of interest. As demonstrated in the picture, this should unlock three new objectives: Investigate the infirmary, the chapel, and the bell tower.

There are two main ways to gain access to the library; you could find St. Tyna's relic and bribe some soldiers, or you could use the bell tower signals to command the nuns. So, be sure to complete at least one of the objectives described below, but feel free to chase both before you make your final choice. If you'd prefer to do both, it's best to start with St. Tyna's relic.
Find St. Tyna's Relic
Starting from the balcony, go left and drop down the shelters. Hug the wall as you make your way to the infirmary — the nuns won't see you. Use focus mode to spot the window on the left side of the infirmary, below the stairs. If you interact with this window, you'll meet a handful of Brencis' soldiers, who will offer to open the door for you (and thus allow you into the library) if you bring them the relic of St. Tyna. Agreeing to help the soldiers will start the "Most Precious Thing" sub-quest.

This time, drop to the right, and sneak carefully through the gallery (see picture below) to avoid the nuns. Upon reaching the church wall, go left to find the church's main entrance. Alternatively, you can continue walking northwest to explore the area on the other side of the courtyard.
Graphic: Marloes Valentina Stella/Polygon | Source images: Rebel Wolves/Bandai Namco EntertainmentSt. Tyna's relic is in one of the northwest buildings, but if you'd rather complete the full investigation (which takes two turns), enter the church first. Picking up the prayerbook and rosary to compel the nun's corpse is enough to obtain the vital clue, but you can also examine St. Tyna's corpse in the broken display and look at the paintings. When you're ready, leave the church through the main door and go right.
Per the compelled nun, St. Tyna's relic is in the sacristy. First, enter the small shed just west of the church (location 1), but be sure to avoid the nearby nun. This is where you'll find the key to the sacristy (location 2). Examine the nun's corpse to obtain it.
Graphic: Marloes Valentina Stella/Polygon | Source images: Rebel Wolves/Bandai Namco EntertainmentYou now have two ways to gain access to the library (don't forget you can still get the bell tower signals for more options):
- Return St. Tyna's relic to the soldiers. They'll give you the infirmary key, but you'll lose the relic of St. Tyna.
- Return to the soldiers, but say "I changed my mind," which will prompt the soldiers to attack you. Defeat them, loot their bodies to obtain the infirmary key, and tell Anca you've cleared a path. You can sell or equip the relic (it will strengthen your witchcraft).
Use the Belltower signals
Starting from the balcony, drop down to the right and sneak through the gallery to reach the church without being spotted. Go left to reach the other side of the courtyard, where you must enter the westernmost building to find the Campana Loquitur book, which contains instructions on the church bells. Without this book, you won't be able to use the bells.

If it's night, you can walk across the roofs and enter through the gap in the wall. If it's day, you must sneak into the small shed west of the church, grab the keys (same as the ones needed to get St. Tyna's relic), and use them to open the bell tower door.
At the top of the bell tower, grab the rope to use the church, dormitory, or infirmary signal — the zombie nuns will move to the location you've chosen. Here's what happens:
- Dormitory signal: The nuns move to the other side of the courtyard, but are still blocking the library.
- Church signal: The nuns gather in the church, leaving you free to enter the library.
- Infirmary signal: The nuns break down the door to the infirmary and kill the soldiers.
If you use the infirmary signal, be sure to follow up with the church signal to get rid of the nuns. If you haven't done so yet, you might want to grab St. Tyna's relic before heading to the library. Finally, as this quest will end with a boss fight, you might want to wait until it's night and you've got the benefit of your vampire powers.
Search the catacombs in 'Echoes of Silenced Bells'
Once you've cleared the path to the library, return to Anca and tell her you're ready to go. At the end of the library investigation, push the bookcase aside to find a tunnel leading into the catacombs. Follow the path, but beware of the zombie nuns that pop up now and then.
At the end of the path, you must defeat a boss: Leonica. Fight her as you normally would, but beware that she tends to use several unblockable attacks in a row, so be ready to dodge them. Be especially wary of the attack where she summons bats, as they will swerve toward you (don't dodge too early).
Image: Rebel Wolves/Bandai Namco EntertainmentLeonica also summons a handful of minions every now and then. Although she's a zombie, you can use Voracious Bite on Leonica to drain her blood and recover health. It doesn't work on her minions, but slaying them will help you recover action points.
Should you destroy the notes?
After the fight, when Anca tells you she wishes to undo the curse, you have a final choice to make: Throw the notes into the fire, or give them to Anca.
Image: Rebel Wolves/Bandai Namco Entertainment- If you throw the notes into the fire: The nuns remain at the convent.
- If you give the notes to Anca: The nuns disappear from the convent, seemingly set free, though Anca's words suggest that they may not have disappeared entirely. This option takes one turn.
Whichever you pick, you can immediately return to the old inn with Anca or promise to visit her later. This will complete the "Echoes of Silenced Bells" quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and start the "Between the Words" quest.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a time-sensitive, narrative RPG where your actions and decisions matter. If you're just starting out, make sure to check out our beginner's guide. After the prologue, you're free to explore Vale Sangora and take on Brencis' boyars however you please, but the freedom can be a bit overwhelming. To help, here's what we recommend doing after the prologue.
