What Baywatch's Netflix Success Means For The Movie

Dwayne Johnson's $177M Box Office Disappointment Finds Streaming Success 7 Years Later

Dwayne Johnson is one of the most bankable stars, which is why expectations for Baywatch, based on a popular TV show, were so high. However, the movie was mostly a box office disappointment, even though it made $177.9 million against its $65–69 million budget. Its opening weekend was especially slow, partially due to dismal Baywatch reviews and its 18% Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics. Seven years later, Baywatch's Netflix's success helps slightly make up for its box office disappointment.
