Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Dune: Prophecy episode 5.Dune: Prophecy star Shalom Brune-Franklin discussed her future role with the Bene Gesserit after her fight with Valya Harkonnen in episode 5. The series takes place 10,000 years before the Dune movies, and follows Valya as she tries to ensure the Bene Gesserit have full control over the Imperium. In the series, Brune-Franklin plays Mikaela, a secret member of Valya's sisterhood who is also working with the rebels. In addition to Brune-Franklin, the cast of Dune: Prophecy includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, and Jodhi May.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Brune-Franklin discussed Mikaela's future with the Bene Gesserit after her plan to kill Desmond Hart failed. After telling Valya that Desmond survived the explosion, Mikaela learned that there was a backup plan already in place. Brune-Franklin explained why this infuriated Mikaela, since she had spent so much time and risked her life carrying out her plan for it to essentially not matter at all. Read Brune-Franklin's full comments below:

Watching that all over again, I was like, "I feel so bad for her." When I read it, I remember going, "Wait, what? This is just a backup plan?" Can you imagine how much time it takes to do what Mikaela has done for it to then all just sort of be a fun plan B?

And I don't think it was probably always meant to be a plan B. This is something that she's been really proud of, especially because she wanted to be like Kasha. She wanted to become a Sister and wanted the glory of being a Sister, and instead she has to hide who she is. It must've felt really cool seeing the raids happen and going, "Yeah, I did that. That was all me."

Then knowing that it all imploded for not really anything at all because he got away? The fact that Val had already accommodated for it failing feels like a huge slap in the face for her. I think we see that fury straight away — you think she's going to hit her. You're like, "Something's about to happen. Can Mikaela use the Voice? Is she about to try and use it?" ...But [I'd] also just like to see where her allegiances end up and what happens between Valya and her. Does she stay true, or does she become a double agent? Who knows?

It's interesting to think of more deceit coming up. Wouldn't it be fun to keep playing deceit? It's so fun playing a liar. It's great.

What Mikaela's Fight With Valya Means For Dune: Prophecy

Mikaela Might Not Be Fully Loyal To Valya

In Dune: Prophecy, Mikaela was originally presented as a loyal member of the rebellion before it was revealed that she was working with Valya. Mikaela's role proves how much influence Valya has at every level of the Imperium. However, episode 5 of Dune: Prophecy showcases Mikaela's anger when she realizes that the plan she has been working towards is only one of Valya's options to defeat Desmond Hart and her other enemies.

Heading into the final episode of Dune: Prophecy , it is unclear exactly where Mikaela's loyalty lies anymore.

The outcome of Mikaela's failed plan to kill Desmond Hart drives a wedge between her and Valya at the end of Dune: Prophecy episode 5. Mikaela is ordered to escape to the sisterhood's safe house on Arrakis but pushes back against the Mother Superior. Heading into the final episode of Dune: Prophecy, it is unclear exactly where Mikaela's loyalty lies anymore. Perhaps she will fall in line and go to Arrakis, but it is also possible that she will turn against Valya and the Bene Gesserit.

Our Take On Mikaela's Fight With Valya

What Will Mikaela Do In The Dune: Prophecy Finale?

Prophecy Season 1 Ep 4 Image via Max

There are a lot of plot threads that need to be resolved in the Dune: Prophecy finale. Therefore, it should be interesting to see how much time is dedicated to Mikaela, who has so far only been a supporting character in the series. Even though she hasn't had the largest role in Dune: Prophecy, Mikaela has proven to be a very complex character, so hopefully she will get a satisfying ending in the upcoming season finale.
