Dune: Part Three posters reveal a first look at Robert Pattinson, along with the return of Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho.
The story of the upcoming film adapts Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, which jumps forward about 12 years in the timeline after the end of Dune: Part Two, and with Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) now well into his reign as the Emperor. Denis Villeneuve returned to direct after helming the two previous critically and commercially successful adaptations. The third installment is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18.
Now, Warner Bros. has released brand-new character posters, which include Paul, the first glimpse of Pattinson, Momoa back as Duncan, Chani (Zendaya), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Stilgar (Javier Bardem), Alia Atreides (Anya Taylor-Joy), and Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh). Pattinson is reportedly playing the villainous Scytale while this is Duncan's first appearance since the character's death in 2021's Dune. Check out the posters below:
As indicated by their inclusion in these posters, some of the Dune: Part Three cast members will have a significantly larger role in this movie than they previously did in the series. This is particularly true of Alia, who can be seen screaming in her poster, and who so far has only appeared through a vision that Paul has in the second film. It also applies to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), who has had a relatively small amount of time on screen so far despite her character's overarching narrative importance. Irulan's marriage to Paul and Alia's developments during the time jump now put them at the heart of the story.
In a change from the source material, as Lady Jessica does not appear in Messiah, it was confirmed before getting her own new character poster that she would be in Dune: Part Three. As for confirmed characters who are not on the posters, Josh Brolin will be back as Gurney Halleck, but also in a smaller role. Momoa's real-life son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, is playing Paul and Chani's son, Leto II Atreides, while Ida Brooke plays their daughter, Ghanima Atreides.
While there are other Dune books that could be adapted in the future, Villeneuve has made it clear that this is the final movie that he will be making in the science-fiction franchise, which will serve as a culmination of a trilogy. Making Dune: Part Three even more of an anticipated cinematic event is that it has an exclusive IMAX theater window during opening weekend, giving it an edge over Avengers: Doomsday during what has been dubbed "Dunesday."
Dune: Part Three releases in theaters on December 18.
