Duncan James has revealed his estranged father had no idea which member of Blue he was when he saw a photo of them.

The singer, 47, was raised by his mother Fiona after his parents broke up before he was born. He never met his father.

Duncan tracked his dad down after he found success with Blue and told him he was in the famous boyband.

'I got in contact when I was 25 and had one conversation on the phone, and told him I was in Blue. He had this deep, well-spoken voice, and said: [does impression] 'Which one are you?'

'I thought: 'I'm not the black guy. I'm not the Greek-looking one. Can't you tell?' He said: 'I suppose I could arrange to meet you for a drink.'

'I thought: 'That's nice that you could arrange to meet me,' but said: 'I'd like to have a beer with you, talk about your life. I'm an open-minded guy, I'm not judging. I just want to sit and look you in the eyes.'

Duncan said there was a double page spread in a newspaper a week later with a man claiming to be his father.

There was a photo of him with a guitar - the first photo Duncan had ever seen of him - and an interview saying his pop star son had inherited all his talent from him.

The interview upset Duncan's mother and the singer decided not to meet with him after it was published.

A decade later, Duncan got in contact with his father's former partner who he had two children with, who the singer claimed his dad left in 'the same way'.

His father was found dead in his house in Portugal 'surrounded by bottles' with Duncan saying he burst into tears at the news of his passing.

He said he didn't understand why he was crying over a man he'd never met and still has 'daddy issues' to this day.

Elsewhere in the interview, Duncan revealed he has 'met someone' he is very excited about but doesn't want to jump in too deep and jinx things.

The singer split from his boyfriend Rodrigo Reis in August after six years together.

A source close to Duncan told The Sun On Sunday at the time: 'Duncan and Rodrigo have gone their separate ways after six years.

'A break-up is never easy but Duncan has been throwing himself into the band and keeping his mind occupied with music.'

Daily Mail understands Duncan and Rodrigo ended their relationship a number of months ago.

Previously speaking to the Daily Mail, Duncan revealed Rodrigo, who lives in Belgium, and his daughter 'really get on'.

Despite the pair meeting in November 2018, it wasn't until April 2019 when their 'journey officially began'.

Around the time of the split, Duncan deleted all their photos together on his Instagram and they unfollowed each other.
