Drake Makes Lyric Change After Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Performance

Nevertheless, Kendrick had no problem bringing their beef—which has since escalated to a lawsuit from Drake to both of their record labels Universal Music Group—to national television.

“I want to make a move,” the Compton native teased to his backup dancers. “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue. Maybe I’ll think about it.”

But he didn’t have to think too long because just minutes later, the instrumental to “Not Like Us” blasted through the speakers. As Kendrick beamed at the camera, he rapped the lyrics to his track, “Say, Drake, I heard you like ‘em young.”

He went on, “Aint you tired? Trying to strike a chord and it’s probably a minor.”

Along with Drake’s ex SZA being featured in the evening’s spectacle, his other rumored ex Serena Williams also made an appearance during the song. 

While Kendrick’s performance was one to remember, he emphasized ahead of the evening that the halftime gig wasn’t something he was actively vying for.

“I wasn’t thinking about no Super Bowl,” he told Ebro Darden and Nadeska Alexis during a Feb. 6 press conference. “The passion I have now is still the passion I had then. And I think that carried on to the Super Bowl. So it was all about being present.” 

He added, “As long as I was present in the studio or present in whatever the line was, or whatever the mistake was, rapping or doing the hooks or choruses or whatnot, I was present in that moment, I felt that passion.”
