Zach joined the ScreenRant Anime team as a contributor in June 2024, before taking on a Senior Writer role in November. Since then, he has covered breaking news and produced features and lists about the most popular anime titles.

Dragon Ball Super's revival appears to be coming in increments, with the first batch of new episodes scheduled to arrive in fall 2026. The iconic heroes' return to TV will begin with a remake of the series' first arc, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, before likely revisiting the rest of the 2015 anime.

From there, all-new episodes of Dragon Ball Super are set to air for the first time since the series' 2018 conclusion. The anime became divisive among long-time fans the moment it aired a decade ago, and though the series' certainly had its issues, the Galactic Patrol Saga will prove Dragon Ball Super does one thing better than Dragon Ball Z ever did.

Dragon Ball Super Does Transformations Better than DBZ Ever Did

The Upcoming Moro Arc Showcases Why Dragon Ball Super Does Transformations Right

If there's one thing Dragon Ball fans can't get enough of, it's transformations. Dragon Ball Z made the franchise's flashy power-ups iconic, and they've since become the identity of the series, especially in recent years. However, despite the fact that many of the most popular Super Saiyan forms originated in the 1989 anime, Dragon Ball Super does transformations better.

It isn't that they're presented any better, or that they hold more significance within the long-running narrative—it's that they're unique to the characters, giving each fighter their own form that closely reflects their own unique traits. Goku's Ultra Instinct is fitting for his character, given his tendency to not have many thoughts both in and out of battle.

Dragon Ball Super is back, which is a huge victory for fans, but it's been long enough to warrant a recap of this latest anime announcement.

The Galactic Patrol Saga will introduce Vegeta's Ultra Ego, and there couldn't be a more fitting name for a transformation unique to the prince. The form essentially gives Vegeta greater strength as he receives damage, playing on his tendency to take a beating before realizing he underestimated an opponent.

Vegeta's upcoming form is just the latest in a trend that began with Goku's Ultra Instinct. In 2022's Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan was given his own unique power-up called Beast, which is reflective of the primal rage that always allowed the half-Saiyan to gain an edge over stronger villains.

Piccolo was given his Orange form, unique to the Namekian race and achieved with help from Shenron and the Dragon Balls. Each character having their own unique path to greater strength is far more exciting to follow than having them all play catch-up with one another as they reach a new level of Super Saiyan.

Dragon Ball Super's return will usher in a new era of Dragon Ball, and there will be no better way of doing so than by having the series' most powerful fighters showcase their strength in their own unique ways.
