Toei Animation has finally given one of Dragon Ball Super’s most infamous fights the treatment it deserved. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus revisits Super Saiyan 3 Goku’s first clash with Beerus on King Kai’s planet, the very fight that became a meme when the original episode #5 aired in August 2015.

Off-model faces, stiff movement, and some seriously wonky character designs turned the episode into one of the franchise’s most talked-about animation failures. Now, 11 years later, the remake is giving the Battle of Gods arc a much-needed visual upgrade, and longtime fans finally have something better to remember that fight by.

The original series eventually hit some incredible highs, especially during the Tournament of Power, but its early episodes struggled under brutal weekly production deadlines. Toei was juggling Dragon Ball Super alongside weekly One Piece episodes and major movies like Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F'.

The new, more focused release approach has already made a difference. Its first two episodes have upgraded Goku’s transformations with sharper lighting, stronger impact frames, and far less of the padding that slowed down the original. After Beerus knocks Goku unconscious with just two strikes, episode #3 shifts the action to Bulma’s birthday party on Earth, where the God of Destruction is about to make things very uncomfortable for everyone.

Dragon Ball Super Beerus Sees Goku Going Super Saiyan 3

With Goku knocked out on King Kai's planet, Beerus and Whis are now heading to Earth, and Vegeta is about to have the worst birthday party of his life. The God of Destruction arrives at Bulma's birthday cruise looking for information about the Super Saiyan God. His visit also brings back the memory of how easily he humbled King Vegeta years ago. Vegeta has every reason to fear Beerus, but keeping him happy gets a lot harder when Bulma gets caught in the middle. That leads to one of Vegeta's most iconic moments: "That's my Bulma!"

The remake has already given Goku's Super Saiyan 3 fight a major visual upgrade in episode 2. With Dragon Ball Super: Beerus reportedly planned for 19 episodes across three arcs, there's still plenty more to come. Once the Beerus storyline wraps up, the anime moves into the Frieza Rival arc, bringing Golden Frieza back for another showdown with Goku and Vegeta. The original 2015 version had some rough animation and awkward fight choreography, so seeing Toei give that rematch the same treatment could be a real highlight.

Jump Festa 2027 Remains The Best Shot At A Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Release Update

Dragon Ball Super Beerus' Goku In Super Saiyan Form

With Jump Festa 2027 coming up on December 19 and 20, Dragon Ball fans are already hoping for another update on Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. Announced back in January during the franchise's 40th-anniversary Genkidamatsuri event, the new anime will adapt the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc from the manga, bringing Goku and Vegeta face-to-face with Moro, the Planet-Eater. It's a huge arc for the franchise, but there's still no official release date or window.

Things are a little uncertain heading into Jump Festa, too. The currently announced stage lineup doesn't include a dedicated Dragon Ball panel, so a major reveal isn't guaranteed. Still, that doesn't rule out a surprise announcement from Toei Animation or V Jump during the event. After all, the Moro arc is one of the biggest pieces of Dragon Ball Super still waiting for its anime adaptation, and fans have been waiting years to see it animated.

Until then, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is giving fans a taste of what the franchise can look like with a modern production approach. The original series had some unforgettable fights, but rough animation sometimes got in the way of the action. This remake is already cleaning that up, and if Toei keeps that same focus on fluid movement and hard-hitting fights, the upcoming arcs could benefit just as much. The Moro arc may still be a long way off, but there's finally a reason to be excited about where Dragon Ball goes next.
