The Super Limit-Breaking Neo DLC will bring so much more than just new characters

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero was released in October 2024 and has received plenty of new characters over the course of its first year. However, fans clamored for more beyond just additional characters, like new game modes and costumes. At the end of July, they'll get their wish, when the Super Limit-Breaking Neo DLC gets released, adding new attacks and stages in addition to a massive number of new characters.

Announced back in April, the Neo DLC will bring more than 30 characters to the game, the first new ones since last fall's final Dragon Ball Daima character pack. We already knew fan-favorites like Pikkon, Super 17, and Super Saiyan Bardock were on the way. Thursday's new Neo DLC trailer showed that teenage versions of Dragon Ball's Goku, Chi-Chi, and Tien are also coming to the game, as well as the 23rd Tenkaichi Budōkai version of Piccolo (and his giant form, to boot). We also see Goku transform into a False Super Saiyan from the Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug movie, but it looks like this form may just be part of a special attack and not a wholly separate character.

The DLC also adds four new stages (Kami’s Palace, Kame House, Bitter Tundra, and Stratosphere of Earth and of Planet Vegeta), various costumes, and additional super attacks are all on the way. Most intriguing of all is the addition of a brand-new, single-player game mode that includes RPG-like elements. In Limit Breaker Journey, you'll pick a character and fly around a map to battle foes and level up stats, customizing their play style to suit how you want to wail on enemies. Some battles will have special conditions, like collecting Dragon Balls, and Limit Breaker Journey promises tough opponents to take down.

The existing Episode Battle mode, which acts as Sparking Zero's story mode, will also be expanded. Earthlings Yamcha, Krillin, and Tien are getting their own Episode Battles, as well as the villain Cell. Publisher Bandai Namco also hasn't said how much the Super Limit-Breaking Neo DLC will cost. It will be released July 30 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. (Information about its launch on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 will arrive at a later date.)

Also on the way is a free update for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero that will bring gameplay changes. Sparking! Boost will allow players to increase their attack power during Sparking! Mode, but their stats will be temporarily reduced once Sparking! Mode ends. And the new mechanic Chain Blast adds a new way to beat people up once you launch them in the air. The free update will also include "variations of existing stages," but the news release provided did not specify what those will be.
