Minrathous and Treviso in Dragon Age The Veilguard

One of the first big story decisions players will come up against in Dragon Age: The Veilguard will have a massive impact on two close companions. As the cities of Minrathous and Treviso both simultaneously come under attack from Elven God-controlled blighted dragons, players will need to decide which they'll be running to defend. This decision is one with consequences though, as both Neve and Lucaris will plead for the player's help to defend their hometowns - and one won't be happy not to be chosen.

Taking place right after players have recruited Davrin the Grey Warden, there's no opportunity to return to their safe respite of The Lighthouse to take a moment out of the fight. Instead, this choice will come as a bit of an ambush that will need to be decided on the spot, making it all the more important to really consider the options at hand. With so much riding on such an early decision in The Veilguard, players will want to really consider the consequences of their actions and how it might change the game down the line.

What Happens If You Help Treviso

Neve Won't Be Happy By This Veilguard Decision

 The Veilguard Neve is Hardened

As expected, if players choose to save Treviso from the dragon attack, then Minrathous will be seriously destroyed. Neve will, of course, find this incredibly difficult to deal with, leaving the party to help her friends in the city and temporarily removing her as a party member until she eventually returns after players recruit the final companions. Many of Neve's allies in the Shadow Dragons will also be badly injured, and the Venatori presence in the city will increase.

Players will find that their relationship with Neve is going to be damaged as a repercussion, making her "hardened" by the experience. Relationship progress will be slower, and she'll be much more distant as a character when first returning to The Lighthouse. Neve will also drastically change in combat in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with some increased damage buffs at certain passive skill nodes but no longer able to use the Replenish healing skill at all or certain support upgrades to other abilities.

Lucaris Takes It Personally In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Saving Minrathous will see players undergoing a similar sequence to that of Treviso, now leaving Treviso to be seriously damaged. As such, Lucaris will be the one that'll be unavailable as a companion for a while, but more importantly, players will also be permanently locked out of romancing him too. Treviso will be partially destroyed because of the damage and its canals blighted, so players will need to re-discover its fast travel points.

Players will find that Lucaris is now "hardened," meaning that some of his damage skills are now more potent, but he can't use his healing skill whatsoever. The Antivan Crows quest "A Slow Poison" will also no longer be available to complete, assuming the player hasn't already done it. With many similarities either way, the choice between Minrathous and Treviso is generally one of personal preference for characters and relationships.

Why You Should Help Lucaris Instead Of Neve

One Big Difference Could Be The Deciding Factor

The Veilguard choosing Minrathous or Treviso

The choice between saving Minrathous or Treviso is one that players will find generally depends on their own preferences. Whether they prefer Neve or Lucaris, the deciding factor should really be which character they'd rather stick around as a companion or romance option in The Veilguard. But, there's one key difference between the two that might make one choice more preferable.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard features six possible factions. They give bonuses to combat, favor a class, and are aligned with a specific party member.

While both Neve or Lucaris will be permanently changed in combat through the decision, and will be unavaliable to the party for a period of time, there's one key factor for choosing one over the other. As Lucaris will be completely locked out as a romance option if players choose to save Minrathous, many may want to lean this way just to keep both Neve and Lucaris on side. But ultimately, this decision in Dragon Age: The Veilguard of which city to save is one that's personal to the player.
